    My guess is that it's region locked. So if there was a real hands-on review it was probably done using a google account provided by Xiaomi - which was registered in a different region or something

    Agh ya. lol... Think I'm just gonna get a second hand NUC. I've never been a fan of Andoid boxes cos of the kak browsers they come with anyway. Thought this one might be different.     Yes, and in fact I can also go to settings > Apps > Show all apps > Show system apps and I see that Chrome is not installed anywhere. Have checked it's running Android TV Version 11, and I've installed the latest security patch. Maybe I'll see later if it's possible to install my own APK...

    Sorry not sure why replying with that. There is no Web Browser at all on this device. You can only use installed apps like Netflix. Searching for Chrome, Google assistant replies that Chrome is not available on this TV - and offers 3rd party alternatives like this one...
