On the off chance anyone is waiting with baited breathe for the outcome or (I hope not) is experiencing a similar problem: the device has been sent off for testing by the supplier. The tech guy said sim readers are often the first components to go. Might've been related to the iOS 6.1 update...
Found this:
"Had the constantly rebooting, not holding signal issue. Just had to go get a new iPhone 5. If you go to Genius Bar, say you already restored as botha NEW IPHONE AND RESTORED FROM A BACKUP they will give you a new iPhone 5.
Tech said he thinks its an issue with the Sim reader . ...
Another good suggestion, thanks. No luck! iTunes says "Cannot activate device at this time. Try again later or contact customer support." Then, after the usual 2-3 mins, the iPad reboots (at which point iTunes starts complaining about a missing device). I've also booted into DFU mode and done...
Thanks for the suggestion morkhans. Have tried already. I've tried it with my iPhone's Vodacom sim and it behaves in exactly the same way. I've tried it WITHOUT a sim and it behaves in exactly the same way; i.e. instead of displaying "No SIM" it displays "Searching...". Also, the 8ta sim picks...
I am stuck in the middle of a factory restore. I can select language, location, and wifi network, but then cannot get past the "Activate your iPad" screen. I'm strongly beginning to suspect a device fault made apparent by 6.1. (I *think* my iPad has always done the "Searching..." thing, and that...
Epilogue: :( My iPad is back to displaying "Searching..." in the top left corner and then rebooting every 2-3 minutes. Irrespective of the presence of a sim card or not. (Without a sim I expect it to say "No SIM".) It exhibits the same problem with my Vodacom sim card.
I most certainly DID...
This is being sent from my MacBook which is tethered via wifi to my iPad 3 which in turn is connected to the 8ta 3G network. Morkhans, you da boss! :D Thanks a gazillion times over.
Midway report: So far so good! After a stressful couple of hours getting repeatedly stuck at the "activation" part of the setup and an unrelated sojourn to Lanseria airport in Friday afternoon traffic, I have a working iPad again. I first set it up as a new iPad and it was well-behaved for 30...
Ah, yes, I see. Duh. I'll report back once I can get the timing right. First time, I got as far as the restore sub-menu when the ipad switched off again. Grrr. Now I've got the software downloading but... 46 hours remaining. Double grrr. Thanks for the suggestion.
Heya morkhans. Thanks for the awesomeness by keeping this thread updated. Every search for iPad tethering leads back here!
I'm one of the now-fortunates on 8ta, so was delighted to find the news after the 6.1 update. I went ahead and installed the .ipcc file. I now have a greyed out option to...
I woke up recently to the fact that I have an unnecessary abundance of gadgetry and am looking to sell a MacBook Air and iPad. Does anyone have any advice on selling tech?
I've used gumtree very successfully before for musical instruments but I'm not sure it's the best place for tech. I've...
Gang dang but there are loads of ways to waste one's time. :) Am loving the "say" command in terminal. Spent Saturday night making my MacBook sing. Yes, I need a life. But check out the results here.
Awesomeness! Did you use objective C? (I'm interested coz someone asked about an Android port.) Have you looked into monogame at all for cross platform dev? I started coding first for XBOX with C# and XNA so mono was a natural step to port to iOS. I haven't got things quite working in Android...
