Probably too late to reply now, but the BCom Informatics is still around, just not open for registration 2nd semester 2019. You will be able to apply for it for 2020 again (as per reply from UNISA when I asked this exact question)
Thank you all for the advice. I'll try to find a Kia Rio 1.4 High or Tech within budget with low mileage if I can, otherwise will go with a Honda Jazz, with a Hyundai i20 or Toyota Auris as last resorts. I spoke to a friend of mine who has a 2011 Jazz and he clarified a bit on his service costs...
The issue for me is that it'll take many more months to safe up for half the selling price of a car, whereas the installments I can afford and maybe even pay a bit more certain months to pay it off quicker. I have a decent sum put away for a deposit as well
OP might want to keep the card for quite a while, having come from his "old trusty GTX670".
My main issue is the remaining lifespan after the card was used for mining, but if you can buy one with the remainder of a warranty in tact, it might add peace of mind.
Allow me to draw the discussion to a baseline question.
Does anyone have experience with the reliability issues and servicing costs concerning the below options:
Honda Jazz or Civic, 100k+ km's
Kia Rio 1.4 (2010+)
Kia Cerato 2010
Mazda 3 2010+
Just meant along the lines of getting a Civic with leather interior vs a Jazz...
If both stand up against eachother in terms of reliability and servicing costs, I would prefer the Civic
The Jazz is a bit dull for my liking. It seems like I can get more car for the price.
Whats the max mileage on a Jazz I should buy? Most of them have 110k+ km
How are the service costs of Toyota nowadays? I'm not gonna get a Corolla, though (just not a fan of the image:X3:)
A Kia Cerato like this? Is this kind of mileage still acceptable? Service prices?

I concur, it's a struggle here in the Western Cape * sign *.
I also haven't found a 2012+ Rio with low km's. Perhaps I should eliminate it from the search
When I started looking I considered the Sandero (they are abundant). But how does it measure up safety wise and in terms of lifespan?
The bonus here would definitely be getting a newer model just out of warranty with low mileage:unsure:
Hi everyone.
I recently got my license and am looking at getting my first car.
Firstly, the budget is R95k (pretty tight).
Important factors for me are:
Reliability (I want a car that i can keep for the next 5-7 years);
low running/maintenance costs (insurance & maybe motor plan included); and...
