Best ISP on Octotel in 2024

Sadly, the packages Atomic offers in my area are very limited. Either too slow for what I'd compromise for, or else way too much than I would reasonably need. So this option is out for me. Thanks all the same.

Acceptable Speeds on a FTTH service?

Thanks for the comment and suggestion. Just been swamped with work since this post, and now I'm waiting for all the internet outages to be resolved before I follow this up again. My ISP is also rolling out a firmware update as of Sunday, so perhaps that will play a role as well.

Acceptable Speeds on a FTTH service?

I wasn't being serious. I heard not-so-good things about them as well, irrespective of their self-proclaimed "Best rated ISP.." rating, which isn't supported by the reviews I've seen. :)

Acceptable Speeds on a FTTH service?

Now THIS sounds like a solution a win-win solution I should consider. Ditch Vox and switch to RSAWeb.

Acceptable Speeds on a FTTH service?

I see. This is the kind of feedback that helps. I will admit I haven't as yet run the Iperf tests to check for packet loss (I didn't know it was a thing in fact), but I may just do a bit of reading and then do tests to post on a thread I saw on here to see how it performs.

Acceptable Speeds on a FTTH service?

Seemingly the "...standing on one leg etc etc..." approach from tech support consultants is a default when they're "troubleshooting". Most non-tech-savvy customers are in serious trouble if this is the standard.

Acceptable Speeds on a FTTH service?

Thanks for this tip, it's a very interesting/different way of checking speed tests, since I've always reverted to using Fast.com to verify what my actual streaming speeds would be, and speedtest.net would then be what speeds I can locally. So I tested via Task Manager it matches what the online...

Acceptable Speeds on a FTTH service?

Correct. The tests I do are always via a desktop computer which is connected to the router with a network cable.

Best ISP on Octotel in 2024

I saw a post from 5 to 6 years ago that touched on this but wanted to revive the topic in 2024, to gauge what other people's experiences are. Am currently in an Octotel FNO residential area, and I defaulted to Vox purely based on experience from work which uses Vox. However, when viewing other...

Acceptable Speeds on a FTTH service?

I'm wondering what the acceptable speed variances are for a fibre line that's operating optimally, and also when/how to know that there IS an issue, purely based on rudimentary speed tests. I've been on an Octotel/Vox FTTH line for about 2 years now and was "upgraded" (with price increases...

Anti-Smash & Grab Window Tinting Around Cape Town

I'm helping a senior family relative with sourcing some quotes for reasonably priced window tinting (anti-smash) around Cape Town, for a 2013 VW Polo Vivo Sedan. So the wallet is not mine, cos it belongs to pensioner. I'm certainly not looking for cheap and nasty, but I don't want to break...

Huawei B315s-936 LTE Modem keeps disconnecting my iPhone 5s when on WiFi.

I think I didn't explain better @sajunky, so maybe let me cover just one aspect. When all devices are at home, I don't even take them out of the bag when I get home, not unless I have work work or multimedia stuff that needs the Acer laptop, since I have the desktop for any other task. And I...

Huawei B315s-936 LTE Modem keeps disconnecting my iPhone 5s when on WiFi.

My first qestion @MirageF1 would be: When you say "disconnect" do you mean getting kicked off the WiFi network completely? Or is it similar to what I am having issue with, where the phone remains connected to the Huawei modem, with a very strong signal, but I will not be able to do anything on...

Huawei B315s-936 LTE Modem keeps disconnecting my iPhone 5s when on WiFi.

Believe me @sajunky, I've been through all the troubleshooting steps with an Apple technician (via chat) who was the one who asked me to run the Apple Diagnostics Mode on the device, and it didn't point to a hardware or a software fault. The only other recommendation was that it could be...
