For what it's worth, just had received a call from the workshop where my bakkie is now. Quite a hefty repair bill due to an oil cooler that needs to be replaced. While not pleasant, it's still "only" equivalent to two months finance payments.
There's a lot of discussions around this. Diesel will give you more fuel efficiency, but the vehicle itself and repairs are more expensive. You have to drive really far over the time you own the vehicle to remotely break even.
