eSIM data bundle comparison in South African

I've ordered a 5ber eSIM to test out, R206 including delivery makes way more sense than the other options.

SSEG - how many have been through the process of registering their inverter?

Not necessarily plug-in, ours ("enlight SIENNA") was installed in Feb 2022 and looks like a conventional prepaid meter but it communicates via PLC to the actual meter outside. I can't see anything on it that would indicate this though, not even a PLC comms LED.

Major South African mobile networks yet to offer online eSIM activation

I see 5ber ships to SA for free, not bad at $12 for the Standard option. My invitation code is MNBNWE if you'd like a 5% discount voucher.

SSEG - how many have been through the process of registering their inverter?

If you want to feed back then you'll need to apply for a tariff change to Residential SSEG, the rates are in here. You will have to foot the bill for the AMI meter and there are requirements for "metering accomodation" at your own cost too (street facing meter box, undergound supply cable). If...

    [Personal Experiences] Hisense TV's

I'll add my 2c; got the 55A8H on that Takealot special for R11k, it was a great upgrade from my previous 49MU7351 ito brightness and contrast, but I also use this screen as a monitor and in that respect, it was a bit of a downgrade. The pixels shift around a bit, so the edges of the desktop are...

    Aramex global shopper

So as an update on this, (spoilers) I eventually did receive the phone in Cape Town on Friday 25/08. I contacted a forumite who had a similar experience with a phone stuck in HK, they ended up having to arrange a courier to ship it back to China as HK was not shipping any mobile phones out at...

    Aramex global shopper

Hi Larry, I know it's been over a year, but what was the outcome of this? I recently ordered a Xiaomi phone from AliExpress and Aramex Hong Kong flagged it as unacceptable. Their unacceptable materials list has for AGS Origins HK "Unknown Brand Mobile Phone, Powder, Animal Supplement, Fake...

Dyness launches new solar battery products in South Africa

"The DL5.0C has a maximum discharge current of 100A – more than enough to support South African plug points, which run at 15A." The 100A rating is for the battery at 50Vdc, not the AC side of the inverter at 230Vac. You cannot power "nearly 7 of these power-hungry devices at once for an hour."...

Any 32" tvs with FULL HD panels (1920x1080)?

I switched from a 27" cheapie Samsung monitor to a 32" FHD Samsung TV (UA32EH5000RXXA) a few years ago and it was great, much better black levels than the TN panels in cheaper monitors. It served well for a good few years, now I'm using a 49" UHD TV lol.

Octotel 100/25 or 100/10? Afrihost vs Webafrica

All the ISP's besides Webafrica are advertising 100/25 with Octotel currently, when Webafrica called me yesterday they said it was changed from Octotel side from the 1st of June (or July, I'm not sure if I remember correctly) and it would be 100/10 with all ISPs, just that the others haven't...

    [Personal Experiences] Hisense TV's

Only if you pay in eBucks? You are undervaluing your eBucks; 40% discount should be a given when you're spending them (wasteful otherwise) so they're actually worth 16.67c/eB. The "discounted" Rand price is just there to fool you.

How to import from GearBest and more

It's supposed to be 15% VAT on 110% of the item value and 7% duties for a cellphone, but the invoice DHL receives from the shipper is often under-declared so it comes out cheaper if you don't send them the actual invoice.

65Q8600UWG R14999 at Esquire atm, using them as the benchmark for Hisense prices, they only give the collect option at checkout though. Wow, R19381 at Loot
