Synology Survey 2025 – DiskStation DS925+ NAS units up for grabs

I'm keen on a home NAS solution, but find current offerings over-priced. I'd like 4 x drive bays, fast network (2.5gigE) and decent RAID support. However, I don't need all the CPU/RAM/VM/app options which most include, and thus drive their price up. I have my own server setups for these...

    Afrihost Pure VOIP

OK, that at least explains it. From a customer perspective, though, it doesn't leave an impression aligned with Afrihost's usually very good service. It seems unfair that accrued balances should be blown away with no consultation. I don't recall seeing anything regarding retention policies...

    Afrihost Pure VOIP

Anybody had issues with accumulated minutes disappearing? I was always happy to retain my PureVoIP service, as I only occasionally use it but my monthly R50 would accrue - last time I checked I had R1000+ minutes "banked". Checked again today and it had dropped to R150-something, and upon...

Legal experts warn that Truecaller is probably breaking South Africa’s privacy laws

Agreed, whilst I found Truecaller to be useful way back in the day, there were privacy aspects I didn't appreciate. Also had an incident where one of my employer's numbers was erroneously flagged for spam and the process to get it delisted was pathetic. Subsequently started using Hiya - the...

The Suzuki Swift & Dzire Thread

Thanks, there were several factors - bit of a long story, actually. The BM was low mileage, but out of Motorplan for a year or two, which bugged me, as it felt like an expensive time bomb. I was given a great offer by SMG as well - paid R280k for it in 2016 and sold it back for R200k. I had a...

The Suzuki Swift & Dzire Thread

Got to agree, just flogged my 2014 320i in exchange for a 2022 Swift GLX and I love it. I don't regret a thing - there might not be nearly the same freeway performance, but in all other respects I like it more. Much much more engaging drive, ample interior space, sips fuel, modern features and...

    Rain corporate sales

Thanks for the quick response, done.

    Rain corporate sales

Could somebody from Rain please contact me regarding corporate sales? We're considering the 5G offering for our WFH users who can't get fiber (mainly Cape area). I tried calling but got some blahblah scripted nonsense about only 3 devices on one profile, and the agent wasn't aware of any...

Having to re-activate every few days

No, definitely not, every 5 days to a week I have to repeat the process. Work VPN remains connected and functional throughout.

Having to re-activate every few days

Thank you, when the issue is present it is not possible to do a speed test, as the sites don't resolve and pages don't load. Traceroute gets past my router, but I have to wait for the issue to re-appear to be able to check how far. Changing MAC address to force re-activation is the only fix...

Having to re-activate every few days

Hi all, Having a funny with my 100 Mbps Octotel/Afrihost fibre line. Every couple of days things get flaky - my TP-Link Archer A6 router shows "poor network" under Internet status, DNS gets erratic and even if it is working, many pages just time out when loading. My work IPSec VPN remains...

EOH lost Microsoft partnership over suspect contract with defence department – Report

On the surface, your point is valid, as is the one raised elsewhere around EOH being L1 BBEEE. However, the damning part is the 150% markup on simple software licenses... SADOD could have got the licenses from MS for $3.4m but instead went with EOH at $8.4m - no way that's legit, unless there...

Pearl White Samsung Galaxy S10 leaked

Right you are. I'm not sure if it's your cup of tea, but I've found the admittedly strangely named ServeTheHome to be a good resource for old skool IT hardware and enterprise news.

Pearl White Samsung Galaxy S10 leaked

Not to be a Debbie downer, but does anybody really care about these "news" items any more? I care about the fact that there's a white version even less than I do about the fact that there's an S10 in the pipeline. Tech media has been inundated with this type of consumerist drivel for years...
