Remove Finder Icon from the dock

Why not take the dock out and add a Start Menu? Not going to say Finder is the greatest file explorer, just make peace with it and add your favourite app right next to it.

South Africans could soon have their driving licences taken away and forced to redo the test

Only the practical portion (driving test) and not the theory test (learners)? I strongly suspect a lot of the issue is not understanding the theory (rules of the road and system of vehicle control) and implementing it. Either way, an "admin" fee can be paid at (many) test centres to get a pass...

    Does anyone still use LinkedIn?

The first frame will trigger the youngins. Should be reporting PDF files, not helping them. :p

Great news for chocolate and coffee lovers in South Africa

Not big on Chocolate, but Best Before has a fair price on Gold cofee (magic marker over the brand) and [unsure about retailer] Nescafe Gold for around R150 .. I bulk buy coffee in winter, when things somehow get cheaper. Not touching the Classic garbage. I use a bean to cup at work, but having...

Oldest working tech or appliance in your house that you refuse to replace?

An ex bought me an LG microwave around 2010 (present and still in use). Prior to that was the defy microwave from 1990 (got from parents when I moved out; donated to the groundskeeper). Also had a Defy top loader from the early 90's (the manual mentions fuzzy logic which was a thing when...

Why does Afrihost’s default CGNAT profile break Metrofibre lines? (And why is front-line support blind to it?)

I'm on MetroFibre (dad on Vuma) with Accelerit. Cheap and cheerful, and PPPoE. Generally don't have issues, though a bit of an uphill initially to get the PPPoE details (both mine and my dad's, but they do give it quickly when you log a ticket). Their support is fairly decent (I email; dad is...

Why does Afrihost’s default CGNAT profile break Metrofibre lines? (And why is front-line support blind to it?)

Interesting use case. Not going to argue the CGNAT performance and issues (it is truly horrible when I fail sites to the 5G backup). I think you may have to make an argument that the CIS benchmark policy may be excessively strict (first the baddies would need to be on the same vlan to sniff your...

Why does Afrihost’s default CGNAT profile break Metrofibre lines? (And why is front-line support blind to it?)

Out of giggles, maybe check out the thread about PPPoE should die thread where an ISP guy describes a solution (DHCP option 82) https://mybroadband.co.za/forum/threads/pppoe-must-die-tech-from-90s-holding-back-fibre-speeds.1325419/post-34065365 The changing of MAC addresses, for security, is...

End of an era for South African households

When the big SAPO strikes happened (2011?) many places moved to email for billing/invoices/statements. I think the major decline happened then, and the rest has been attrition and cost cutting (paper and post isn't free and multiples more expensive than email/sms/whatsapp) The traditional media...

Top private school in South Africa cut off over R9.3 million in unpaid bills

Wouldn't exactly call it top. Private brand sure. Don't leave a parked car unattended there too long else trim bits, covers and badges disappear.

The Information Regulator has said security guards at estates can't collect copies of IDs or licences, or ask for email addresses or phone numbers

The information stored in your license barcode is actually scary (I hosted a system for short while until the security company kept complaining the industrial wifi kept not working and *random moans*). Not happy with the closed wifi, they say ok, they'll host and back to they need wifi again...

Say goodbye to shopping malls as you know them in South Africa

Why bother going to the malls that charge for parking in tiny cramped bays? They may be entertainment destinations, but really only that. I'll rather drive to Woodmead/Centurion (or Mushroom Farm if small qty) where the parking is free, easier to navigate and with a good assortment of shops --...
