    In the 1800's meat was preserved with formaldehyde (formalin) so the SDA church was right about a cancer risk from eating meat. Now we have refrigeration so no need for preservatives.

    I hear that a big dairy farm with a herd of 300 can use up to a million rand of electricity for all the pasteurization and refrigeration equipment as well as the irrigation on the fields. A good rain can save more than R30k per day for water pumping.alone.

    Eskom shouldn't do loadshedding on the farms in the morning and afternoon. Dairy cattle can't wait 4 hours at milking time. Generators are dirty and expensive and burn diesel to add to global warming but we've all got them.

    It's easier to tell the inspector to wait at the gate while we put the dogs inside and just unplug the PV inverters so the meters don't turn backwards. We still need Eskom for cold rainy days and 15kWh of batteries usually lasts 3 hours if we cook and use the kettle at night.
