    [Personal Experiences] Toshiba TV's

Speech sound mode, bass boost on 5 (full). Could also try Late Night sound mode. I also use Rtings' Hisense U8G picture settings (aside from the white balance, as they advise) and it looks fantastic, if you want to give those a try. As it seems to be the same panel.

Eskom confirms permanent load-shedding for next 2 years

https://mg.co.za/article/2015-05-14-did-only-32-of-households-have-access-to-electricity-in-1994/?amp This goes into quite a bit of detail. In brief: Only around a third of people had electricity before '91, when the big electrification drive began, which had risen to about 50-60% by '96. So...

    Portable 1TB drive prices: 2012-2023

A bit off topic, but an annoying thing I've noticed in the last few months is that Googling external SSDs brings up HDDs instead. The Google ads at the top would for instance say "2TB Toshiba Canvio SSD", but when you click on it and go to Makro or Takealot or wherever it'll be a HDD, and won't...

Eskom confirms permanent load-shedding for next 2 years

Only a third of people had access to electricity pre-1994. Most only got electricity in the late '90's. It seems revisionist history does exist, after all

Ramaphosa asks Eskom to suspend big tariff hike

But if we don't get the increase, how will I know to "treasure" my electricity?!

Eskom confirms permanent load-shedding for next 2 years

So in other words, nothing different from the last 6+ months. But I'm sure after two years that'll be the end of it, right? ...Right?

Best TVs you can buy in SA and what they cost

8Ks and 98 inchers, but still not a damn 1080p 32" in sight to use in my PC nook :/

Eskom giving 24-hour load-shedding break over Christmas

Probably just don't want the absolute embarrassment/hatred of giving us load shedding on Christmas day. Even if that's at the cost of straining the grid and causing more units to go down over the course of the day and following week...

Big growth for fibre in SA

We got our fibre from Vodacom last year, as they're the only one who operates in our area. Full fibre, fibre-to-the-home, all that jazz. Wonderful stuff, only it turned out the fibre cables only go up to their tower about 2km away, and it's wireless from there, which wasn't advertised. When I...

Eskom's disappointing collapse in one chart

I don't blame him for load shedding itself, but he certainly hasn't done anything in his three years there to improve matters. On the contrary, we're on our fourth Stage 6 of the year, with an even worse outlook for the year ahead and no end in sight. Good riddance to him, and good luck to...

Eskom technically load-shed at Stage 7 last week - BER

We've reached the point where even the stage we're on isn't accurate any more. At this rate I can see them just revising the whole thing to make it sound less-worse. "Good news! We've updated our system, and load shedding will never go above stage 2 again." "So only 2,000 MW tops?" "No, that's...

    Eskom load-shedding timetables (and changes) for 6 Dec - 9 Dec 2022

You may be right: Yesterday we were on stage 2, now we're on 6. We've gone up 4 full stages in the span of a day.

I feel sorry for you guys. Messages are barely posted and they're out of date already
