First Time Home buyer: How common is it for Agent to ask Purchaser/Buyer to use part of their deposit to settle Seller's municipal and eskom arrears?

Excuse my ignorance, but the municipal and Eskom accounts are the sellers responsibility. Does the transfer attourneys not settle these accounts and deduct the money from the proceeds of the sale? Outstanding rates and taxes will not hold up a sale if it goes through an reputable lawyer.

    The Home Improvements Thread (3)

I assumed as much. I don't mind the labour, it is only a few doors. Its more the detail on the door that I did not want to deal with. I'll try one of those sponge sanding pads and see how it goes.

    Cape Town property departures

Hi I'm not knowledgeable in this field, but what I have found is that if you can motivate what the impact of the departure will be they will more likely approve the departure. In your case you are not adding to extent of the existing building being over the building line so your impact will most...

    The Home Improvements Thread (3)

Hi all, I have a question related to the repainting of doors and door frames. The frames are the old steel ones and painted in a gloss enamel. I'd like to use a water based enamel paint due to the reduced VOC's but I'm not sure what prep work, if any is required? If I don't have to sand it down...

    security camera consulting

My 2c to add is to try and buy the same brand camera and NVR. ONVIF exists if you want to use different branded cameras, however, I tested this with an TP-link ip camera and a EZVIZ NVR. I have to use the TP-link app to change settings on the camera because it is not available on the NVR. It...

Moving from Cape Town to Pretoria - 2026

Thanks all for contributing. I find it interesting that people that moved away have commented, but I am yet to see someone who moved there and would not consider leaving.

Moving from Cape Town to Pretoria - 2026

Would you not want to go back purely because of the basic services or the options of things to do outdoors? Everyone always make the comment that they would never go back or would not consider it, but I'm trying to understand why people would not want to live there anymore.

Out of interest, why do you feel that CT is so much better than PTA?

Moving from Cape Town to Pretoria - 2026

Good day forumites. There is a chance that I might get an offer to move to Pretoria this year for a new career opportunity. As the title states, we'll be moving from Cape Town (Northern suburbs) to Pretoria (office is in PTA East) so I would like to get your insights on what your experience...

    Discovery Vitality 2026

Ah thanks, that makes sense! I saw about the benefit on the website but could not find it on my app. As @rougeTr00per said, they are really bad at setting out the terms and requirements.

    Discovery Vitality 2026

Can someone please explain the Garmin reward to me? Where can I see more info and how do I activate it? It says I need a qualifying bank product, but they do not go into detail on what it specifically is. I also do not seem to be able to find it on the app.

Should I stick with Discovery Medical Aid in 2026?

Hence why I said "use/closest" if you are in say Kimberly, there is only one hospital. You do not want to drive 300+ km for a simple procedure just because that is not a network hospital. If you however have options then obviously make sure the one you prefer is on the list.

Should I stick with Discovery Medical Aid in 2026?

Oh and one more thing to note if you do think about changing plans or providers is to make sure that your doctors are listed under their network as well as the hospital that you use/closest to your house.
