When we will fiber be installed in Cosmo City Zandspruit Roodepoort

Cosmo City is fully fiber covered now with the largest networks being Mavoni Fibre and Vuma. Mavoni covers Ext 0, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 while Vuma covers Ext 6 and 2. The 2 or so extensions that didn't have coverage are being installed now by fibertime. Linteg appears to be struggling to...

No fibre service for more than 24 hours at a time

After a cable cut or a major fault in your area, it often helps to check if problem affects multiple users on your street WhatsApp group. If so, advice technicians not to waste time changing your devices, but focus on portions of the network where all homes terminates or meet. This can include...

Vumatel & Vodacom's lack of urgency.

Very frustrating indeed. I think one of the issues is the lack of local techs that can support networks locally.

    Cool Ideas Air Fiber

The air fibre depends on the real fibre for backhaul, lol. Jokes aside, if you have no good "real" fibre options, you can give it a try.

    Saw this today...

clearly a very bad splicing job, things will easily fall apart and hours spent on finding the problem. Wonder which FNO allows this kind of work

Rain and Telkom win spectrum in Opt-In Auction round

700 MHz will mostly be used for rural areas or at the edge of urban areas where you have few users far apart. This is because this signal travels further compared to 2600 MHz. The 2600 MHz band will mostly be deployed in densely populated Urban areas where you need more bandwidth in a smaller...

Rain and Telkom win spectrum in Opt-In Auction round

I will attempt to answer, the 700 MHz band is FDD (Frequency Division Multiplexing) spectrum. So you need a pair of channels (2x10MHz) or even (2 x 5 MHz). In this case 10 MHz is used for downlink and 10 MHz for uplink. So equal download/uplink speeds which will assist a lot of people that are...

Rain and Telkom win spectrum in Opt-In Auction round

No, it can't work like that. you have to bid to get any portion of spectrum. Either they weren't participating in this round owing to auction rules.

Rain and Telkom win spectrum in Opt-In Auction round

So it would mean the going rate for sub 1-GHz spectrum would be R75 million per 1 MHz given Rain/Telkom each got 2 x 10MHz at R1.5 billion. Am i correct in my calculation? Not cheap.

eKasi Fibre launches in SA's 4th-largest township

Typically, a large neighbourhood (2k + households) will be serviced by 1 fibre POP. This POP will have a GPON switch (or switches) with 4/8/16/32/64 PON ports depending on number of customers to be supported. Sometimes a few neighbourhoods close together can share a single POP. All depends on...

eKasi Fibre launches in SA's 4th-largest township

Remember most FTTH broadband services are best effort service and bandwidth is contended at the fibre PoP or core network layer. All GPON terminals supports downlink rate 2.448Gbit/s, uplink rate is 1.244Gbit/s. This is multiplexed across all connected users to each GPON port. But the WiFi...

When we will fiber be installed in Cosmo City Zandspruit Roodepoort

Cosmo city has fibre (FTTH) in Ext-0 and 5 from Mavoni, the rest of the extensions (8,10,3, Island,Creek) from Linteg. I suspect more than 500 households already on FTTH.

    Broadband options: Middelburg, Mpumalanga

Which part of Middelburg? I might be able to get some info on when fibre will go live. I know Evotel are busy in some parts of Middelburg right now.
