Thanks for all the feedback, feel more relaxed about its use now.

Is it then ok to leave the inverter permanently plugged on when not in use. I do have my tv & hi-fi connected but they are mainly in standby mode during the day.

So if the fan stays on for an hour after non use I suppose I should not be too concerned if it stays on for five hours after 2 1/2 hrs of use. I leave my inverter permanently on as it powers my tv and hi-fi both of which are mainly in standby mode during the day. Fan is off during this period.
