    Very easy to get lost and disorientated on that trail, especially if you are unfamiliar with it, as it is not maintained or used frequently so it gets very overgrown.

    Looks like he was on Hiddingh Ascension. There is a notorious point where you have to take a faint sharp right to continue up the mountain, if not you end up at the top of a dead end shear cliff.
