Steve Hofmeyr moans that De Klerk sold out "Volk to Swart Gevaar"

So, to quote's Steve own medium, he is very blunt about promoting his message on Twitter,

My unpopular view on FW's legacy here

Then on to the message, not going to translate it,

Vir sommige was hy 'n puik staatsman.

Ek het ongelukkig sy insig totaal oorskat. Ek het hom selfs gevolg. Hy was 'n slim man, maar visioenêr was hy toe glad nie.

Die laaste staatsman vir my was PW Botha. Alles daarna was drek en drogrede.

Hier is 'n ander interessante opinie, van Rian Malan. https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/f-w-de-klerk-a-hero-of-our-time

I don't believe there is anything inherent bad about Steve's opinion. I mean, it is a perception. There are things I agree with and don't agree with.

Just want to point out, there was a Constitution booklet some time ago which indicated that minority rights must be protected and that the many must have their rights balanced. This booklet doesn't exist any more in its respective archives, but I have linked to it and quoted its content many a time on Mybroadband. I have to ask why, did the imperative change? Do I also need to point to what the JSC prioritised as a criterion to be elected as a Constitutional Judge?

I wouldn't say de Klerk sold out the volk, but the conditions were open to interpretation and later change. This isn't a minority nation, or rather state, any more, but neither is it inclusive, in my view.

I was fine with everything he said right up until the point that he praised PW Botha as the last true statesmen for him... :X3:

I can recommend a reading of the spectator article which he gives by Rian Malan.

  Isn't this the one who said 'Blacks were the true architects of apartheid" or something like that? I am told he is considered an icon in many households (VF+ households perhaps) ?

It is more the Front Nasionaal types. They go by a new name now,

He is an ally to th VF+. The VF+ leader more or less implied in his statement on the death of De Klerk that De Klerk was a sellout.

Steve allies with anyone who uses his name in their campaigns. Pieter Groenewald has long disagreed with the decisions taken by the National Party, and not de Klerk per se, as he believed that minority rights warranted protection, it is no secret, however Groenewald didn't relay Steve's sentiments, it is a position long held by him. This has nothing to do with being allied, but Steve is standing with Front Nasionaal as a 'celebrity' campaigner.
