Think long and hard before joining a tax revolt in South Africa

Wow. What a great idea. That will really work out well.
Funny how civil disobedience worked when everyone boycotted e-tolls hey..

But what did you expect, kumbaya round a campfire? Sorry for the inconvenience, but asking nicely doesn't help its time to make ungovernable, only language ANC understands.

Does anyone really believe they ****ed up Eskom to 'help the poor', or let Zuma and the Guptas run amok to assist the most vulnerable in society? Lol Kierswetter is no better than the rest, they all sat idly by while we were being robbed, then pretend governments intentions were noble all along. Won't someone please think about the [-]children[/-] poor.

Bull ****ing sheite..

In agree, but how do you translate that into action? I cannot avoid PAYE. It will not end up well if I stop paying municipal accounts.

Edit: Aside from rates and taxes, there is not really anything else I can stop paying without me getting cut off.

However, I'm being civilly disobedient by not paying for a TV license.

Why is this so difficult for everyone to understand? Mass non-payment of muni accounts IS a tax revolt..

Of course there'll be inconvenience, we are fighting a hostile government remember, but it needs to be orchestrated, mass action, money goes into holding account, someone like Outa could facilitate, notify gov of intent so they know what its about, yeah its drastic but stop thinking that a tax revolt is going to be roses and fluffy bunnies one lazy Friday afternoin.

They can't disconnect everyone & they'll starve themselves of income. Government simply has to respond to such mass action, and it's a slight bit better than keeping on saying that we can't boycott PAYE. Munis are the government..

My pay would almoat double overnight! ****, I'll even give some of it to worthy causes then
In the unlikely case that there is a tax revolt, it would most likely take the form of withholding tax from the government for a period of time.

The same people who keep the corrupt and incompetent in power?

Wait, where do "we" sign up?

Actually if "we" don't pay tax, it is the government that suffers.

I do understand that. Not going to happen.

If it was possible to not pay rates and taxes, and all the service levies, sure. But I have no choice to pay for services that I use. I am 100% sure that COCT is going to laugh at a few neighborhoods refusing to buy electricity or water.

So we must vote but a person in charge of sars has the power to stop the looting by really going after the corrupt politicians via their tax affairs . Rather do nothing and claim trust democracy pleeease . To me kiesweter is another cadre and is part of the problem and he should be going after the politicians and then we might see trust restored . Go after vbs guys if want to start somewhere . Remember al Capone was eventually done in for tax

I watched this silly webinar. It wasn't really worth it. It actually just annoyed me.

Anyway, my clients love it when I send them tax payable letters. They are so excited that they phone me to express their gratitude.

Middle class earners that end up with a tax liability suffer the hardest. Even those that are subject to bracket creep that inch past the tax threshold suffer dearly. It's hard cash that's gone.

Some don't even have medical aid and the having to fork out R3k for absolutely nothing is a killer. R3k can buy a bunch of bread.

On the other hand, there are individual taxpayers that can pay R2m in provisional tax and not even care.

So please tell me how low-income earners are screwed by a tax revolt? These people work and don't depend on a grant. A grant does have its place.

Sassa card fraud is rife and some don't even see their money.

Grant tax relief to the middle class in the form of reducing (slashing) tax rates, increasing the rebates with a higher than inflation increase. Increase the interest exemption. Increase the tax benefits for retirement saving. Increase tax benefits for medical cover. Grant a tax credit for sending kids to school. Grant a tax credit for owning a primary residence. Widen the scope for building allowances for companies. Increase VAT by 2% and expand zero rating. Expand travel allowance claims to include expenses incurred in respect of public transport and transport to and from work.

All this rubbish could have been avoided if the funds from the fiscus wasn't pissed into the wind.

One word that came to mind when I watched the webinar was "ineptitude".

You (government) want money? Make people WANT to stay and invest here.

The "suffering" doesn't start and end with the most fragile citizens of our country. It starts there, yes, but the end is ever so slightly creeping toward the high income earners.

We did a profitability analysis of companies that we serve over a period of 5 years. While the average revenue increased, the average profitability decreased. Cash flow also worsened and the asset turnover decreased. The lockdown was a killer for some companies. And hey, guess what - fuel costs and additional private energy generation investments are killing the very companies that employ hundreds of people. Next up is the water crisis. And that is going to be a real killer.

Anyway, my 2 cents. Not that it matters, I'm just ranting.

Yes because the government deciding where our cash goes is a good idea

I will be doing the tax revolt. When my contract is done in 11/23, I am out. This one has had enough now, thanks.
