Where to emigrate to? Recommendations and experiences welcome

Moving overseas is NOT for the faint of heart.

This is GREAT advice.
It is great advise if you plan to move, period. I have an ex-employee that left George for a "much better opportunity" in Kimberley.

He has been bugging me non stop because he wants to move back to George. He hates Kimberley, he hates the weather, he hates the people, his kids are not getting on in school or making friends and lets not even talk about the 2 tyres he had to replace due to potholes and his wife cannot get all the vegan food she was able to get in George.

Where you are moving is actually irrelevant, you need to make sure that moving at all is the right thing for you and your family.

We have a complete different view on the medical system. I guess it depends on where you live. We live in the Randstand, and either struggle to get a GP appointment or you get an appointment only to see the doctor google symptoms in front of you and then shrug and ask you to try Paracetamol. Some things are free, some things are not - it depends. Not discounting your experience, just saying for us it was really different.

This. When we were in the Randstad and had to call around and all the doctors said "sorry, we're full". Eventually we found one. And then during the COVID times I had this lingering cough that lasted over six weeks. My wife forced me to go to the doctor after she had enough of it and the good doctor responded with:

"I also cough in winter"

But then to be fair for a real problem I have he prescribed me some strong medication and when I ran ‎‎empty and asked for a refill over the phone, he issued the script without question :)

Here, outside of the Randstad - where everything is Dutch - we phoned the closest doctor and got registered without issue the first time.

Maybe that is the secret then :)
I can honestly say people don't know or appreciate how good the private healthcare in SA was. Or how friendly your average South African is compared to a European. Perhaps this is also better outside the Randstad.
Perhaps the dank dark wet weather is getting to me as well, haha

All good and well, but mostly, you don't know until you make the move. Then it is all about admitting you made a mistake or keeping at it until you like the things that irritate you

Any of the great states of the USA (so the ones not full of woke idiots). The Sunbelt states are generally good to live in, as well as some of the Mountain West states such as Montana!

I can vouch for this. Diversity of food in SA is better and cheaper (than first world countries).

I had 4 different people visiting SA last year from Netherlands. They all agreed food was much better in Netherlands and did not like what SA offered. Also had a guy from Texas visiting SA and he complained saying SA meat tasted like S**t compared to theirs in Texas. It is just a matter where you grew up and what you have become accustomed to. You can relearn this by moving abroad and staying there and never coming back again. A lot of people do this.

We have a Dutch uni in our small dorpie and all of the students can't get enough of the township food  although I think most are just heading to the township for local sausage :whistling:

What is worse.

Regret not trying something which might fail.
Or try something and regret you made the decision.

Thing is, everyone already knows what you will get if you stay in SA. Land reform, crime, NHI, poverty, no employment, discrimination, racism, no economy, extremely high inflation, potential hyperinflation, exclusion from the world economy, declining businesses. Thing is, we are already there. If you are happy with this, then SA is the place for you and you have no reason to look elsewhere or even trying it. Rather save up your money, because you will definitely be needing it going forward in SA.

Left for Ireland last year August. Critical skills and all that.

The weather takes some getting used to.
Its nice to walk everywhere.
Its great to get onto a bus and get off anywhere on the route for just over a euro.
Crime is VERY low.
Electricity.

Housing is terribly expensive in the cities (Dublin / Cork) but food and transport is dirt cheap.

Should've done it long ago.
