i use the brand from builders

its like R18 or R15 on special

has 4 individually packed packs

and i use about half a pack for each fire ...so one box lasts about 8 fires

The Spar branded stuff is around R22 a box. I make 5 braais with a box. Could probably stretch that if I spent more time with axe in hand. Nah!

I think the Blitz is close to R45 now. Not going to pay that. Got lots of expanded polystyrene in the garage. A bit of thinners and you've got yourself some homemade gel. Not so green however.
 
Buy a liter or 2 paraffin. You can pour a few ml straight onto you charcoal and light it. Or leave a bit of your old ash in the braai, mix it with the paraffin for a wood fire and there you go for cheap cheap.

You can even use some old teabags with paraffin like some of the woke grandpa’s do

We were smashing through a box of firelighters every two braais,(3-4 braais a week). I have 25 bags of dry leadwood which I purchased in Gravellot, Limpopo for R15/bag. Die goed is klip hard, en baie swaar. It takes an age to get going, so for this application gas fire stick is the way me thinks.

I also only use that blitz. I find it to be the best and longest blitz from the ones I've tried over the years.
