Signs of trouble for private schools in South Africa

I heard in my valley that interest in the open days are very high, higher than the previous years. People are looking to public schools.

Those in my valley are all proper public schools, all which are also under attack by the EFF. The EFF has written to our schools that the governing bodies and student leaders must be demographically aligned.

They tried that here. The members never came back after somebody took a few shots at them and their cars with an automatic. One of the perks of living in a gang area.

Pity not a single public school has been built in my area since 1994.

History will show that the last thing that anyone needs is for anything to be forcibly demographically aligned.

The world seems to want to go back to segregation, this time it seems the people who were originally segregated want to go back to it.

Seems the more "progressive" people have gotten the more they lean towards this old ideaology.

I am not sure if the world wants to go back to segregation like it was but many are learning that simply forcing diversity doesn't make society any more diverse.

Ok maybe the US then, Harvard now has graduations for black and latinix students, schools have black only classes. There are black only bars, it's like okay so what was the point of fighting?

If they remove the race lens and replace poor, middle income and rich areas, this paragraph will make sense:

White people who grow up in highly segregated communities of color have lower incomes than white people who grow up in highly segregated white neighborhoods. Black children raised in highly segregated communities of color make $4,000 less per year than Black children raised in white neighborhoods, and $1,000 less than those raised in integrated neighborhoods, the Berkeley analysis found.

People living in poor areas tend to remain poor, people living in rich areas tend to remain rich.

Sure but why are places like Harvard doing separate graduations?

I see what you mean, when I think of segregation I think of the 'Slegs Blankes' days which were written in to law, I have no idea why anyone would want a blacks only or any other race bar. Maybe it's more woke nonsense where insecure people are offended when in the presence of specific people?

Yup I know right, I just found it odd that the US seems to be going like this.

EFF sticking their nose where they can... its unavoidable. best to take them head on.

I think there is definitely a shift, my daughter is at one of those top government schools and there was a sprinkle of new faces this year, one of the girls even admitted that her parents moved her from Herschelle because they couldn't afford the fees. I know someone personally who had the same - son was in a very expensive private school and then the business tanked in the pandemic so they tried to get the kid into (one of the best) boys public schools but its full because its that school so now they HAVE to put him in that very expensive boys school, shame.
But kids are moving between public and private all the time, lots of parents don't like the stuff the education department is pushing and so move to the private schools.

I think we will see a time where the private schools will have to start adjusting their pricing and then at the same time the "good" government schools start breaking free of the education dept.
The government schools that are worth going to, cost an arm and a leg as they only partially funded by the government, parents pay extra to keep the teacher ratio and standards up.

Firstly, they can write coherent sentences? Now that's the real news here.

Secondly, just put the letter back in the envelope, and send it back to them with a note. Return to senda, wrong address.

It'll take them months to draft a new version. Rinse Repeat.

Failing that, pre-emptive violence is always the right answer.

It has been a trend for a while, but has accelerated recently due to a recent (2022) change in the criteria for acceptance into high school. The rule change was that public feeder school kids now get preference over private school kids, where prior to that they where viewed equally and it was all about distance. With the new rule for a school like randpark high almost zero private school kids got in to gr8 as the feeder schools of Randpark primary and Weltevreden park primary basically fulled all the slots. A lot of parents do private for primary school and shift to the good public high schools in gr 8 as most of the private schools increase the fees per grade so it gets less affordable the longer you stay.

Now that they cannot easily switch over more parents are just going for the public primary schools anyways, or switching them earlier if possible.
