Pick n Pay and Shoprite spend up to R3 million a day on diesel

Makes one think why they not installing solar/battery storage at the same spending rate. I guess most buildings are not owned which presents a challenge? I'm sure there's a solution to this.

The generators predate the current crisis.

Very very very expensive try and run all the fridges, bakery, butchery and deli from batteries. We are talking of at least 300 Ampere here depending the shop size.

 R3 million a day on diesel

That explains the prices of avocados…
Everything in fact
I was gobsmacked 2 days ago
Cruised into PnP on Thu after work for about 10 items as usual
Every single thing I purchased was at least 10% more
Some 20%
I just thought it was the normal ANC ****ed up country inflation kak as usual
Now it makes sense
The diesel spent each day for load shedding is what you and me are paying for.

Pfff, that's like the same amount of diesel it takes to drive a Landrover from Joburg to Cape Town.

How many batteries can you buy for R3 million? Then the next day, buy R3 million more. And, you only need them when it's cloudy with generator backup.

If this problem is never going to get fixed (the ANC has never fixed anything) then buying diesel is plain stupid, solar and batteries is the long-term solution. Even if the car park becomes a sea of solar panels. It's going to cost millions but we have the government of our choice so we can't complain. Democracy has a price tag.
