Tried it? I reckon 90% of all new application development output lately is ChatGPT :)

I have ask ChatGPT how the world would end, one of the scenarios was:
  1. One potential scenario for the end of the world is the rise of advanced artificial intelligence. As machines become increasingly intelligent, there is a risk that they could surpass human control and become uncontrollable. This could lead to catastrophic consequences, as these machines may prioritize their own survival over that of humanity. The development of safeguards and ethical guidelines for AI is crucial in order to prevent such a scenario from occurring.

So a generalised scenario that doesn't really mean anything.

"AI bad, do good things to stop bad things"

They should make a movie about that. Call it Terminator or something.

I use it a lot for research. It's ok. I can however find a lot of what I need through traditional search methods. It does help give a framework of information, but I still need to go in and refine a lot of the information. I can see how these tools can add a lot of value and improve productivity. But I am not 100% sold on the "Job apocalypse" nonsense that is starting to do the rounds. I think these tools will help improve productivity while alleviating some of the unmet demand for skilled workers.

The potential job losses resulting from the development of AI technologies are not specific to ChatGPT, but rather are a broader consequence of the rapid advancement of these technologies. For example, AI-powered systems can now read and interpret medical images with a high degree of accuracy, potentially reducing the need for radiologists in certain situations. Similarly, the automation of routine and repetitive tasks, such as data entry and customer service, may also result in job losses across a variety of industries.

Correct.

However, I still don't think the job losses will be to the degree as stated. Many people will be required to skill up to take their jobs to the next level where they work with AI, but that is the nature of progression. Also, there needs to be some intervention to protect these people. Let's take trucking for example. Self driving cars are inevitable. However, is it worth the cost of millions of people losing their jobs? The cost of supporting these people will fall onto the State and average people while the companies that benefit from these tech improvements walk away with record profits. So I believe a degree of sanity will prevail. Relentless and uncontrolled technological progression is not always that great. But it really does come down to each sector that is being impacted.

For example, in healthcare, profits are through the roof. Yet, healthcare is very inaccessible to most. In addition to that, it is estimated that 1 in 3 deaths is due to medical mistakes. I think AI and technological progress can address a lot of issues, and these technologies should be deployed not for the sake of improved profits but driving improved outcomes.
