They are laanie cops with airplanes that take photos from the the sky. If your panel gets sun then they will know about it. They don`t have money to subsidize solar but they do have money to prop up the air solar police force, socialism 101.

That's exactly verbatim what I told the installers when they finished the installation and waving their card machine around in front of me.

As mentioned, there is talk about it, municipalities may see less electrical income etc. etc. but its going to be a VERY long time before they're coming to take your money for having solar. Are you willing to sit in darkness for an unknown length of time, just incase they might do it?

Yea, we don't know why those people were surveying our area, but they hang over properties that had installations. Now, this can be for various reasons. But everyone saw them hovering about.

Actually working on that because we also want to know. All we were told at the desk was to come back on Monday, then the person that works with this stuff will be back. Whatever that means. It is actually why I asked about it because everyone say every municipality has their own take on solar so we have no clue what is happening.

Yup, all of us are offgrid, all 200 permanent sites

Municipalities and electricity is a fraught and complex issue in SA, mainly because so many municipalities depend on the high markups to fund general expenditures. It's a fundamental weakness in SA's post-1994 municipal financing regime.

Municipalities buy from the state-owned bulk generator (Eskom) and resell to retail customers after 120%-250% markup. Many municipalities are utterly dependant on their electricity profits to fund other non-electricity municipal expenses.

Until a new way is found to fund municipalities in SA, we will see these awful distortions in the market, such as the reluctance to get on board with solar pv.

What happens when they're left with a bunch of Sowetos after all the paying customers have left?

No, we have seen them surveying the area several days a month. Can you please for the love of all things good not put words in my mouth... But whatever, if you people don't want to help, then no one else is going to get help also because this will be the perpetual wall they will hit. Just say "WE DON'T KNOW" But an a-hole remains an a-hole I guess.
