Municipalities and solar, what is going on?

Well, good luck with load shedding... But our political parties and other entities need to challenge this in every court in the country. South Africans should not be penalized for trying to live their lives.
I'm someone will try take it to court but remember the people who can afford solar, batteries or any kind of backup power is not only costing the municipality money but also the freeloaders. I'm looking at you Soweto...

This is what the majority of people voted for. All South Africans are paying the price as it should in a socialist democracy. If you want to live in SA then you have to make peace with the fact that it is a shytehole, and all need to suffer equally.

If you want a better life then get out of SA, there is no better life for you here, nevermind your children.

Not touchy, I just want a working refrigerator. I don't even care if we have lights or not. So all the municipality send us was an application form and a document called "Requirements for small-scale embedded generation"

Screw it, I don't care any more, When Eskom is good and properly dead we can try this process again. I don't understand. Also, last thing, our district is not DA at all. Just for your info.

I am not going to even mention where we are located because I can only imagine how badly that will go.
If you need power than just get the panels.

At no point is it going to be not worth having solar when the power goes out.

Just on the solar survey, there are many people who would be interested in a survey of who has and who has not. A heli is not the most efficient way of doing this either...
The municipality is more worried about the minimum usage problem.... which is much broader than just solar. The problem is that they need a minimum amount of usage to cover the cost of maintaining the infrastructure. We are pretty sure that most municipalities will implement a minimum charge fee to cover this cost.
So if your usage is less than R500 PM or whatever then they will still bill you R500 to cover the cost of maintaining the grid in your area. The only way to avoid this to go off grid.

Why this wont really be a problem is that if they let you feed back, they can resell that power and make a higher profit off of it.
Then there is actually a good reason for them to let you feed back.

Feeding back will then cover any of the fees that they might levy so its not going to be a consideration.

Somebody have been drinking some potent socialist kool-aid. Everything you said is just so wrong completely.

The money does not go into maintaining the grid, it goes into free services for the poor.

As usual - Citation required.
**** off with your BS.

As for other muni's - Promap is a mapping provider, has won contracts for aerial mapping for other muni's, so yes its happening elsewhere.

What is wrong exactly, considering you think you're an expert?
1. She has very good reason to be pissed off.
2. Just getting the panels is the worst advice, that is how they track you and fine you. Rather get just the inverter and battery.
3. The taxes and rates is not being spent on what they say it is supposed to be spent on. It is there to cover the cost of Eskom`s failure only.
4. Definately do not feed back with a municipality like that. Feeding back is a rippoff and not worth it.

Our municipality (DA) send out a notification today and printed a piece in the local newspaper referring to the by-laws passed in 2021 about registration for solar.

It's a requirement BEFORE you're allowed to install, apparently. The ooms and tannies on Facebook is having a field day on the municipality's page about this.

Maybe OP lives close by :X3:

and does not relate to the collection of a solar "fee" so try again.

My post explains why they would need such a survey....

...and you're moving the goalposts as ****ing usual.

A55h0le said - CPT is using aerial photos to track solar panels - you said prove it. I did, now you're asking for other stuff.

F. Off

Lol have you not seen the R750 per month levy? It is there, I promise, go look again and you might see it.

Nope, I have not seen such a "solar levy"

perhaps read ?

From next month, the City of Cape Town will use aerial photographs, inspections and billing analysis to find unregistered rooftop solar panel systems.

If you are using a solar PV panel system, you need to be registered with the city - or you will be disconnected from the city's electricity grid, which will cost you R6,425.90.

Owners of 1,200 solar panel systems have already registered with the city, before the official cut-off of Friday, May 31st.

Owners of solar-powered geysers and emergency equipment such as standby generators do not have to register.

So you need to ensure that your install is compliant or not connect to the grid.

Damn commies...

Cape Town has similar.

Meter reading fee only for solar users + need to buy a 4 quadrant meter + specific fee for SSEG users.

You can choose not feed-in, but they do want you to sign up for SSEG if you don't have an account, and pay a monthly fee even if you don't want city power.

I've documented this a million ****ing times for you already, so stop with your ****.
