Matatiele municipality councillors spent R1 million on a Durban hotel meeting

At the hotel I worked at they mostly sleep until the buffet opens. Never seen government workers move so fast.
Gou by die bak, maar lui by die vak.

I guess that after stuffing themselves at the buffet, they get all sleepy and go back to bed?

Tiny municipality blows R1 million on Durban hotel meeting

Councillors from the Matatiele municipality in the Eastern Cape travelled to Umhlanga Rocks north of Durban for their annual planning meeting, at a cost of more than R1-million.

This year’s meeting, at the Garden Court Hotel, took six days, from 5 February to 10 February. A total of 108 rooms were booked, at R1,500 a day, not including catering. The 54 councillors and some of their staff could each claim travelling costs, up to R3,000.
To put it in perspective. Matatiele municipality has about 200k residents. That's about the population of Uitenhage.

54 councillors.
Each with staff even!

They really don't understand the point of government. The ANC is a business. A business based on spending our taxes on salaries.

And then those pigs stack those plates to look like skyscrapers.
The costs as they are actually aren’t exuberant, you can’t expect things to operate to free.

The real question is whether any value was gained from the entire meeting.
Simple answer - of course not.
Not the point , just completely unnecessary. These costs should be for tourists not councillors looking for a paid holiday. Hope they swam in the sea while they were there.
Doubt any of them can swim. Too bad we didn’t hear about any of them drowning while they were there.

I used to frequent the Mmabatho Palms hotel in Mafikeng every second month for years—work situation. I can count on one hand over all those years that there was not some or other conference or get-together by a government institution or municipality or similar.

Flashy cars with slick tires in the parking. The hotel fully booked. So many fat fscks sitting by the pool drinking and eating. And man, the breakfast and dinner buffets. Those were something to behold. You cannot believe how they swarm around those buffet counters. It's unreal. As if they hadn't eaten in 3 months.

They will sit and stuff their faces like no tomorrow, and then wait and wait until the food has settled in their fat fscking bellies, then go dish up for round number 2.

I use to go have breakfast as early as possible, as soon as the breakfast buffet opens. Get in, and GTFO before the pigs wake up from their 5kg meal the previous night.

Oh, and of course, the conference rooms/facilities that were booked were half-empty most of the time. No one in sight. Until lunchtime and dinnertime, people were everywhere.

The hotel itself had no other reason to exist anymore except to cater to this kind of bookings.

Then it burnt down. Not sure if they rebuilt the place. Does not make financial sense for peermont to carry on operations if not for the government bookings. Rooms were showing their age and bathrooms as well. Always fully booked but never upgraded the rooms.

Dont they get discounted rates when so many rooms are booked, its Garden Court so its barely a 3 star stay

You don't look for discounts when the whole point is to spend money, it looks like they felt they deserve this, so the money was going to be spent.
