The University of Johannesburg (UJ) has on Wednesday become the first ever university in South Africa to unveil electric vehicle (EV) buses which has already begun ferrying students between various campuses. The higher institution said the buses are its latest innovation in its ongoing efforts at going green and reducing carbon emissions, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

That is exactly what the university needs. Buses that require fuel of which there is a massive shortage in this country.

No man, rumour is that the Ramapoespas is going to anounce a new Minister of Eectric Buses at Universities in his post-Sona-Sona stuffing ceremony that'll sort the issue out before you can even say stage 8 incoming..

Don't they have solar infrastructure in place? All those parking lots could have been put to good use.

Even the busses themselves, plenty of roof space on them to put solar, even if it's only good enough to top it up, between that and power harvested from regenerative braking it should make a difference.

But maybe they are still fine tuning the idea.

In short, well done UJ for taking the giant leap. Hopefully things work out in the long term.

i'd love to see the mileage of one of those after they're stripped by the locals, who's up for a wager? 2500kms? 250kms? 25kms? if substations are stolen, these busses dont stand a chance
