Which handgun do you recommend for EDC?

Expecting the yearly fee for sport shooting at Spartan Arms to be around R2600 per person.

They announce the fees each March.
What does it all take to get a section 15, just proof that you belong to a club?
Do you actually need to prove that you've gone x amount of times?

I just joined NATSHOOT in Dec and applied in Jan and that was it.

I had no issues...I already have a S13...I said I needed a S15 occasional so I didnt wreck my S13 gun and could keep that stock standard...

I think it was R400 odd I had to pay recently for my yearly renewal..
(Hoping to be out of this cesspit before I need to renew the S15)

Natshoot is a great, cheaper alternative for DSS. They are simply amazing.
I would rather go this route for DSS, and probably still join a club at a fraction of the cost.

The difference is you want section 15.

For me it is all about the section 16.

For my DSS, you do 6 club shoots and submit the dates you went and Benita at Spartan Arms renews your status for the year.

Where would you leave this cesspit to?
The only english gun friendly options im aware of are USA?
Most commonwealth countries are hunting rifle at best.

Jip, but for me it is the ease of access.

I work and live close by to Greenstone mall. A quick pop in at 2PM on a Thursday and I am done with 1 club shoot.

And when I want to test a few loads, it almost costs me nothing to go and use the range for "almost free" (Visit divided by the amount of times I went that year).

For now SAPSA works for me.

No need to belong to a club. The usual are required. Application form and accompanying documents, and firearm motivation.

You also don't need to prove you've gone shooting or whatnot.

I've lived here gun free for 33+ odd years..Its only in the last few years with numerous break-ins and other incidents that I have felt the need to weapon up...I'm not a gun boy...I'm not mad on shooting but I will have no issues in laying down lead should I ever need to...Its your life or theirs at the end of the day...

But its not how we should live and I'm happy to go somewhere else where I don't have to carry a gun (because we have a kindergarten cop as minister of pork chops...)

Deep inside, your inner child is screaming, LIES DAMMIT!!!!
LOL...it does make me sad to think of the money and time spent on the weapons though....

But my last robbery was while I was on the property and I don't fancy being yet another statistic of crime...

Fair enough.
I used to think the same way as you.
I believed that you only needed a gun if you were doing something bad and carrying a gun brought negative vibes your way.
I was not a gun boy either but after seeing world wide government overreach during covid, and seeing the piss poor protection our country had against looting, I started understanding the common American quote(im paraphrashing) of "Rather have a gun and not need it than not have a gun when you do need it".

I have really started believing whole heartedly in the American second amendment for all law abiding citizens, sadly I know it will never happen in South Africa because very few people believe in self responsibility and would rather have someone else do it for them.

If I ever did leave South Africa, I think it would only be for the USA because its the closest to my belief systems.
I love Australia climate and lifestyle wise and enjoyed my visit there, but after seeing their covid response and government overreach, as well as their no gun laws, I doubt I could move to a commonwealth country like Aus, NZ, Canada, UK, etc.

Ill end up back in the UK as I have a passport...But I will practice carrying my Stanley Knife though....

Interesting to note how different we all are.

I still remember 8 year old me.

Dad : "Do you want to shoot?"
Me : "I want to, dad you go first"
I then proceed to walk around adjusting the head protection while my father shot at least 50 rounds.

Only when I got used to the sound did I take over from my father. Those were the times...

I grew up with it, it feels like all my other toys that I am collecting. Each toy has its purpose in my house.

I can't find my earlier certificates or medals.

No military record here nor "special forces" training here. That was before my time.

What I have to offer is the start of my hobby and the years since then.
Earliest I can find when I started competitions was the following(Had to have training before starting the comp):

Those wandering, 1911, 45 pistol on that comp.

I have training in the following cause we(Note the WE) own:

9MM, handguns and PCC. Go look on the EDC forum for pictures uploaded.
45 as stated above.
22LR
.223 Semi.
308 bolt and semi to follow as soon as I have it, see below
12GA shotgun manual and semi
.38 special

Yes I have my competency in all areas except black powder and I have a maintained DSS status.
I'm never going to do that "Tactical" training books ****

One thing I have never done is shoot the barrel of a rifle to its end of life.
All firearms are all bought and obtained lawfully.

More proof of being lawful:

My current position with competitions are not that great as my shots are great but my time on these comps are some of the worst.
Practice and more practice is needed to maintain one's ability to be effective.
Last year I only did 6 comps but I am trying to visit the scheduled Thursday events more often.

Give me that R1 and R4.

Someone took the Baldur IR I wanted to buy. :crying:

Was R1800.

I see the others are available with a green lazer at R2300.

Guess Im out
FML. Wanted the pl mini 2 and it sold out as I was in checkout.

Shoulda just gone played golf.

“Goode Age” haha flip… I don’t know how I missed this for my first gun! Haha

Would love to get a Benelli M4 Shotgun.. but we aren’t allowed to license semi-automatic shotguns right?

Also keen for a Sig Sauer MCX Rattler 300 Blackout.

And a Glock 34 MOS.

Then a hunting rifle… havent decided yet.

But money and safe space I can imagine quickly become issues here!

You can license a Semi auto shotgun. On a normal shotgun competency. You do need dedicated status though, but that's trivially easy to get through natshoot.

Thanks for sharing! This is great news… so we can actually license a semi-automatic shotgun then. Maybe my dream of a Benelli M4 will come true one day haha
