South Africa is now the closest it has ever been to Stage 8 load shedding, which will mean no electricity for 12 to 14 hours a day. News24's Sheldon Morais, Ahmed Areff and Kyle Cowan dive into the state of Eskom, load shedding and the crumbling grid.

Bring on stage 8. We are on stage 6 and our town has daily 2 double sessions and 2 single sessions (2.5 hours each) of loadshedding every day. This means that we are without electricity for 12.5 - 15 hours per day on stage 6. So, stage 8 won't be as bad.

I have actually made a mental note to clear out the deepfreeze this weekend
I dont even know what is in there
So must be expired

We must get prepared for grid failure.

Imminent

This year

In my opinion it has already failed. The past 3 days we, and all other stage 6 days we already had less than 9 hours of electricity per day. On stage 3 and 4 we have no more than 14 hours of electricity. This is a collapsed grid.

Your local grid vs the national grid are 2 very different things.

Does not matter. We do not have electricity. No matter how many grids, local or national. It is irrelevant as the electricity simply just is not there.

You don't have electricity, but there are many who still do. It still doesn't seem you get what a grid failure is and what a local failure is.
Grid failure you wouldn't be on this website as it would more then likely be down along with cell towers and many many other things.

Some people have electricity because they bought solar systems. These people don`t feel the blackouts. There is a solar system out there in the world that is meant for you

Most hosting companies already struggle keeping local servers online. That being said, thousands of businesses already made plans with hosting abroad, many just as precaution but most already left SA shores and are running on servers abroad.

The business or website owner that has not yet moved to servers abroad is a dead business. As for internet connection, even with a collapsed grid, you will still have limited, but expensive connectivity to access the internet and run your online business.

As much as you are Chicken Little, you really don't have a cooking clue what a total grid collapse would actually look like, or mean for South Africa

Move to the Cape
It's lekker here
Cape Town in general seems very poorly geared against loadhshedding, compared to JHB.

Speaking only on my own experience with restaurants who offer limited menus when the power is out, and many fast-food places just shutting their doors during blackouts.

We also have 1 stage less load shedding
And our slots are on time
Never late
