The joint military exercises of South Africa, China and Russia, which began on Friday along the KwaZulu-Natal coast, once again revealed the dire state in which the South African Navy is.

Experts believe that the navy is unable fulfill any role at almost no level of functioning and that this leaves a security gap.

"It's actually shocking how desperate we are if anything were to happen," says Kobus Marais, the DA's spokesperson for defence.

Too few vessels

According to the South African Navy, what is on its asset register and what is in a usable condition are worlds apart, says Marais.

The navy only managed to send two vessels to the current military exercise. These are for all practical purposes the only two functioning vessels that the South African navy currently has. The condition in which these vessels are, moreover, is questionable.

According to Marais , all three of South Africa's submarines - the SAS Charlotte Maxeke , SAS Manthatsi and SAS Queen Modjadji l - are not serviceable. This means, among other things, that maintenance and mid-life replacements have been so neglected, that they are no longer actually useful.

These incompetent fools canceled a demonstration because of "bad weather"!

Imagine the enemy attacks during "bad weather"!

What a useless and dreadful bunch of fools!

I can just imagine the joke they must be to the Russians and Chinese!

Not a problem, the countries who want to annex South Africa just need to follow the Gupta method. Never mind the army, they’ll be able to move their military bases onto ours if they pay enough lol

Not only the Navy, how many serviceable aircraft, armoured vehilces or even operational bases do we have left ?

Probably less than 5%

Another reason why I approve of these military exercises. Nothing like humiliating the incompetent ANC a bit amongst their peers.

Great job SA navy.
It seldom we agree on anything but here we are.

A nation unable to keep a 40w bulb burning for 24hrs really has little place in naval exersizes with superpowers

just imagine if the joint naval exercise wasn't at all to show "the west" the middle finger, but rather an assessment by Russia and China of how quickly they can annex South Africa ...

which new overlord would you root for?
