Nope. Had cartrack trackers in our vehicles. Insurance only came down by R15. If it gets stolen I get a new one.

I never did, but recently installed them.

Couldn't give a rats ass about the car, but more about the occupants. And definitely not for insurance purposes, unless they insist.

Remember watching a few videos on the NoJack Youtube channel, they rescued a person that was kidnapped via a tracker. I never forgot what the guy said about installing one, even if it's the most basic one, it might save your life.

I am forced to coz my broken car is a 1999 model
Additional R69 a month for my 'tracker'
Can't really complain
Insurance for 3rd party fire and theft is R159

is it legal to force trackers by insurers? I mean is it an option?

Yeah you either accept or not. It's mostly optional however some insurers will now force you to install a tracker if you want to insure a vehicle on the "most stolen" list. So Polo's, Hilux's, etc. No tracker, no insurance. They'll have a list like this:

  • Toyota Hilux
  • Volkswagen Polo
  • Toyota Quantum
  • Nissan NP200
  • Toyota Fortuner
  • Toyota Etios
  • Toyota Yaris
  • Ford Ranger
  • Ford Figo
  • Nissan Navara

No, but my wife has to have one.
I don't want a stolen car back so my car does not have one. But a tracking device could help in a kidnapping situation and I think women are easier to target for kidnappings than men.

First thing they do when they steal your car is remove the tracking device so what is the point?

These days insurance is asking for you to install two or three tracking devices. Where does it end?

Also, if they steal my car I don't want it back. They can keep it.

Asked the garage to put a tracker in my car...the guy looked at my car, looked at me with a confused expression, and asked "Why?"...

I do. I have a limited edition car of which there are only 1800 in the world so I would like to have it back if not stripped before the tracking company can get to it
