Escalating load shedding and solar incentives announced, now what?

"Thankfully the solar incentives announced in the recent Budget Speech will go a long way to assisting home and business owners to take care of their own energy needs, and potentially provide power for the rest of Mzansi as well."
 Jou d00s. Fcking idiot.

"The one positive to come from the address is that residences and businesses are being incentivised through tax incentives to get solar."

If the reaction to President Ramaphosa’s recent State of the Nation Address (SONA) is anything to go by, then it’s clear that South Africans have finally realised that load shedding isn’t going away anytime soon.
Except for Capetonians. Many I spoke with there still believe some loadshedding miracle is on the way and are not looking to spend money on solar & batteries or gensets.

On the question of "Now what?": get ready for water shedding.

"For homeowners: “Individuals who install rooftop solar panels from 1 March 2023 will be able to claim a rebate of 25 percent of the cost of the panels, up to a maximum of R15 000. This can be used to reduce their tax liability in the 2023/24 tax year. This incentive will be available for one year”"

Did you do the math ? Fcking idiot.

10K if you are lucky for most households.

Hope the installers work their magic on invoices to increase panel costs and decrease costs elsewhere.

There are plenty people installing solar here.

We also have a government doing something about load-shedding.

This will only help those that can already afford to install it.
Agree
90% of the forumites here earn over a quarter million a year
Rolling in it
Going full solar is no problem for them
I will never be able to afford it
Should have studied harder at school
