What book are you reading at the moment ?

Honestly, I bought the Rhythm of War paperback but the thing is so thick and heavy that I ended up getting an electronic copy and read it on my phone.
For Sanderson and Stephenson I double dip a lot. I like how they look on the shelves as objects, but damn. Not comfortable or portable.

Caliban's War - James Corey (The Expanse Book 2)
I’ve just ordered the 10th Anniversary Edition of Leviathan Wakes.

Anyone else have/had a thing for special editions? This is new for me, I hope I don’t end up regretting it because they cost serious $$$

So pretty though.

Is Takealot/Loot the best place to buy books? They have better pricing than Estoril and Exclusive Books and they always arrive in good condition.

Takealot is usually your best bet.

Otherwise, just go to your local library.

Pretty much, at least for the books I usually buy. I would've said Bargain Books if you were looking for an actual store, but unless the book is on sale it is usually more expensive than Takealot.

Although their selection can feel somewhat random at times, I can also recommend checking out Reader's Warehouse.

Started Talking to Strangers by Malcolm Gladwell. I forgot how much I like some of his writing.

First three are good, next three decend into an orgy of chaos and nhihilism where there is just constant pain.

You're back! I just saw your name and got excited, welcome dude.
Was considering keeping away but getting progressively (pun intended) banned from sections of reddit is it's own kind of depressing.

isn't this series like Hunger Games?
Kind of but much much more brutal and at first anyway makes a lot of sense.... then it just becomes a ridiculous violent space soap opera instead of a serious space opera. Much disappointment.

Figuratively speaking (and sometimes not quite so figurative): you arm got ripped off, here is a nice new prosthetic.... but wait.... lets shove something scalding hot up your arse as soon as you get comfortable!

Lots of gore here.

Reddit was its own kind of depressing, it's one thing to deal with a series of dumb comments, it's another to be downvoted into invisibility.

I checked the reviews, opinions on the books are very split.

Ag the downvotes are fine... it's the hysterical mods sounding like schoolgirls with wet underwear when you ask them their rationalization that makes you lose faith in humanity..... and a LOT of femboys and furries on there which makes it creepy.

Like I said, they start up good but then he looses the plot.

Forgot about this, the books are a kind of allegory as well:
The Red slaves living underground (damned in hell) rise up against the tyranny of the Gold masters (just take away the "l" and you have God) who control the skies. The Golds hold a kind of corrupt balance of fear between the 7 races that once ensured stability but became a vile cycle of scheming and murder.... replaced by massive civil war an societal collapse when "The Rising" happened which is arguably actually worse.

A bad order replaced by a worse one because reform became impossible. It's an attack on all things Judaeo- Christian which discredits itself in the process ultimately becoming anti-human instead of anti-God.

Currently listening to this on Audiobook.

Very enlightening.

Inclined to agree with this assessment, even though the final book hasn't been released yet.
Read up till half the 5th.... even my usual compulsion to finish all stories I start is not strong enough to finish this abusive ride. Everyone is betraying one another and basically doing what they know are atrocities out of necessity with all sorts of rationalizations. And then there are the absurd curveballs just to keep the tension going. It's just all so ridiculous.

You know for a fact the 6th will end on a mostly positive spin and then the 7th will start the cycle of abuse all over again.... and you wonder how many people will become full robots or when the aliens arrive or whatever. The author has simply lost control of his own narrative and is milking it at this point.
