Haven't seen a thread yet for this.

On a Thursday earnings call, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav announced that newly-installed studio leaders Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy have brokered a deal to make “multiple” films based on the beloved J. R. R. Tolkien books. The projects will be developed through WB label New Line Cinema. The first “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, helmed by Peter Jackson, grossed nearly $3 billion worldwide; Jackson’s follow-up trilogy based on Tolkien’s “The Hobbit” matched those grosses.

No filmmakers have been attached to the projects as yet, but in a statement to Variety, Jackson and his main “Lord of the Rings” collaborators Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens said Warner Bros. and Embracer “have kept us in the loop every step of the way.”

They really are treading on hallowed ground with this one. Will have to wait and see what they come up with.

Revamp like in reboot?

No, mercifully not. At least, not based on this

De Luca and Abdy recalled that New Line had previously “took an unprecedented leap of faith to realize the incredible stories, characters and world of ‘The Lord of the Rings’ on the big screen … but for all the scope and detail lovingly packed into the two trilogies, the vast, complex and dazzling universe dreamed up by J.R.R. Tolkien remains largely unexplored.”

They already covered the two books they have the rights to, unless they managed to gain access to more somehow?
Perhaps they could do some side stories set in this era, but without having the original cast it wouldn't gel too well with the image people have of the original trilogies. You need to have some tie in with the main plot otherwise the series will lack cohesion.

Writing new stories and characters always come at a risk especially considering the lack of writing skill displayed in similar series, but even more so when compared to Tolkien's work.
On the bright side it can't get much worse than ROP :whistling:

The problem is that they could simply make up things in the Tolkien world. Add things in and make it what they want without sticking to anything.
If they somehow manage to use the LOTR lore (and there must be a fair amount they haven't explored) then great. Just don't make it bloody woke. With Peter Jackson onboard though, there's hope he will stick to the subject material.

Gosh, not another 6 hours in a movie theatre...
I'll stick to Fast n Furious X thx.

Hopefully its better than the series that just aired

Bilbo will be cast as a disabled trans womxn of color..
Travelling to Mordor in a wheelchair. Luckily orcs build all those evil towers with wheelchair accessibility. Also, loads of safe spaces where no killing is allowed
