SARS says politicians and leaders should open up their tax affairs

fat chance of this happening, all those mansions and Luxury cars didn't just fall from the sky,
or this is another distract and deny operation with a bit of "eating" involved, as somebody needs to sit and make the Ministers look "humble"

just like those BEE certificates.

Makes no sense that they are not. This should be done to ALL citizens of SA, and last time I checked they were.

Good move for transparency. I support this. Come forward and let SARS state explicitly that they're all compliant.

But still they fight in court to protect Zuma's tax affairs.
Did you even bother to read the article?

On Tuesday (7 March), SARS said it received written consent from the president to make a statement related to his tax affairs, after a previous statement from the taxman gave credence to claims he was involved in dodgy dealings.

They should give him a polygraph test.
No wait. He would pass as he believes the **** that come out of his own mouth.

These dickheads use suitcases full of cash, cutouts and brass plaques in Panama and Dubai for most of their dealings. Nothing will come of it.

What is the good move?

“Mindful of the considerable public interest and concern in the affairs of the taxpayers Mr Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa, Ntaba Nyoni Estate and Ntaba Nyoni Feedlot (Phala Phala), SARS has received the consent of the taxpayers…to make a public statement,” it said.

To date, audits have been concluded without any adverse tax findings. SARS wishes to confirm that the taxpayers are compliant with their tax obligations to date.

Ramaphosa is compliant, and

SARS said that without the taxpayer’s and public officers’ express written consent, it would be prohibited by law from making this statement.

as it should be. Tax is private, and open to optimisations where scrutiny can be wrongly applied. Not to ignore that SARS can error too.

Then,

However, SARS said that its business units could not track the information down – noting that it “could not be found and/or may not be in existence.”

but it related to the Sudanese national, no?

Ramaphosa is cleared, or so I understand.

It's an official statement on the record out in public. That alone is a step in the right direction if it ever comes to light that it was a false statement.

Any extra ammunition is good here.

The Banks and Payment-processing institutions will fight this harder than the politicians, as they'll be just as exposed.

It is because they are set up like a sanctum, but where corruption is directly expressed they should open themselves to the investigators and prosecutors within a predetermined scope in which they may have exposure to corruption. I am in the view that the corrupt is protected by SARS.

I hear you. But a lot is said on record and turns into dust.

The South African does not believe in checks and balances or milestones or diligence. The path of least resistance is the usual choice and for anything to do with the state, it means doing nothing beyond an initial press release. The press do nothing to follow up because they also follow the path of least resistance even if they're not partisan scum.
