I meant unsubscribe from both Monica Hesse and Noam Blum. In that way it doesn't get "pushed in your face". Don't like the content of WaPo? Don't read it.

Exactly this. I really think that this is why we don't participate here anymore. Happy to engage people like @wbot even though we don't agree, because he is reasonable and debates in good faith and I appreciate it and respect it. Would have a beer with him anytime.

There other folks here... Literally no point. It's just vice signalling and culture wars and gaslighting and outrage and denying reality all day every day.

Not reading an article doesn't make its content disappear. People still read it and believe that nonsense.

You're basically advocating for sticking ones head in the ground and pretend that some topic doesn't exist. Sadly that doesn't work in our extremely interconnected world.

If the majority just behaves that way then it's only the squeaky wheel that gets heard. This will result in warped policies that do not reflect the actual society.

So while I can easily avoid reading xyz newspaper, it won't matter. It'll only result in me remaining oblivious about what the different factions discuss.

Covid was one such an example. Because of at home studies many generally clueless parents were rudely awoken to what some of the schools teach their children. This resulted in the positive change of a large uptick in home schooling and across the board increased support for the school voucher programmes.

Knowledge is power, even if its something you don't agree with

Nah, I just understand and by way of analogy that because the teller handed over the cash doesn’t mean the inference is that the cash was legally obtained by the bank robber.
 
I don't have an issue with this tbh. They're not banning gays from getting married. People just shouldn't be forced to do something that goes against their own beliefs. This is like Beloftebos all over again.

Let's extrapolate to a more extreme analogy to make it easier to see why this is so wrong...

Would you be ok with a doctor refusing life saving medical treatment to a gay person because of the doctors religious beliefs? Or if they refused to touch a woman on her period as per the bible and thus let her die? Or parents refusing life saving medical treatment for a baby based on religious beliefs?

As @quovadis correctly says... that person isn't fit to be a doctor and by the same logic these people aren't fit to be licensed marriage officers.

If these are the persons religious beliefs then those beliefs are kak and barbaric. If they get in the way of you performing your basic and primary job function then it should disqualify you from the job. You have a constitutional right to freedom of religion but not to being employed.

You're basically making the argument that a paralyzed person should be allowed to be a fire fighter... Absurd.
