Google One adds VPN access to all plans

Google One is expanding its security features and offering subscribers on any tier access to its virtual private network (VPN) service, the company announced in a blog post.

The VPN service was previously limited to those on the 2TB plan, which costs $10 (R186) a month. However, subscribers can now access it on any tier, including the Basic plan at $1.99 (R37) a month.

This could make the cloud service attractive to users looking for a cheap VPN, as other VPNs like NordVPN, Surfshark, and ExpressVPN start at $4.19 (R78), $16.95 (R315), and $9.99 (R186) a month, respectively.

While it should be noted that these VPNs offer significantly discounted

I think it is a different use case for a VPN than those listed. The reason why they have the VPN isn't to mask internet access into other countries. It is to encrypt your local traffic only.

so what VPN works for us, besides Nord and all the ones you see adverts for constantly,
windscribe?
Why ask me, do I look like a local VPN provider expert to you? I just repeated what I saw in the article..

I tried it even with a US based account but it doesn't even connect so we will need to wait for it to be released for SA.

Was hoping to test it out. Google has an amazing network with so many network edges in every country.

Apparently it’s the same thing as WARP and you can’t bypass streaming geo blocks using this

I think it will be better than warp. Cloudflare hands over traffic to transit providers so it leaves their AS.

With Google they don't do that. It's all on their own network until they eventually hand it to the destination network over peering or pni.

It will be so much better.

Now you have me excited.

I got the little stars in my eyes until I saw it's not available for SA

Cloudflare VPN

It's okay. They use a mix of Seacom and Work Online transit which is decent transit providers but Google runs everything on-net. They don't hand any traffic to other tier 1 providers which will make it significantly better than warp.
