Corruption is everywhere, including in renewables, I can tell you that.”

“Corruption is individuals who are greedy and steal. You steal everywhere you work. It is not about coal.”

He's not wrong. To deal with corruption, we need a working criminal justice system. Most of us assume that funding allocated to renewables will be stolen, since it is an ANC administration controlling the process, after all.

It’s the brain dead way he said it.

And Cyril let this braindead corrupt fat fsck stay in place...

We all know coal isn't going anywhere anytime soon you daft prick, but we want you and your cartels out of the bloody game so that the EAF can go up to suitable levels and we can properly plan a transition to a more mixed grid.

Mantashe said the main cause of load-shedding is not related to the lack of renewable energy. Instead, it is the sub-optimal generation of Eskom’s coal-fired power stations.

South Africa should, therefore, not focus on walking away from coal but improve its existing energy generation assets.

He says it like it just happened, and was not the direct results of the policies of his party.

Definitely, Gwede's history of not giving a fsck about coal corruption gives a bleak context to this statement, but our corruption problem is a failing of Ronald Lamola and Bheki Cele, not Gwede.

As much as I'd like us to reduce our carbon emissions, at this point, I'm all for a new coal station if it means I can have 24-hour electricity.

Nah, its a failing of all of them, each in their own special way.

Just came from there.
Lucky I missed him otherwise he would have got a fat klap

“Coal corruption is fine. Corruption is everywhere, including in renewables,” says energy minister Gwede Mantashe.

“Corruption is individuals who are greedy and steal. You steal everywhere you work. It is not about coal.”
Jesus wept.

The cavalier attitude.

New coal power stations are silly at this point.

Realistic options ranked from easiest to most difficult:
1) Fix all current coal power (as per treasury plan, concession out all management and operation of coal power stations to private sector)
2) Add as much renewable as possible
3) Allow for gas reserves to be used and power gas turbines
4) Fast track SMR rollout to replace coal power stations.

Are these things ever going to have an EAF close to 80% again? Aren't they too old?

I think it would be more than doable to get them up to the 70% range again with the right maintenance and considerably less sabotage and criminality.

At that value it will give us the breathing room to properly plan on how to fix the grid into the long term.

People need to get it through their thick skulls that Eskom/ANC/SA is fvcked forever.

Yes this is what you vote for when you vote ANC.
