Are high-end inverter brands really worth their premium over less-established ones?

I've been chatting to solar installers to quote on a hybrid solar system. The big names in inverters seem to be Sunsynk and Deye. Was told these are German products with good warranties.

I'm looking at a 5kVA inverter. Have been given rough pricing that a 5kVA 48V Deye inverter will cost around R28k vs R17k for a Growatt or Luxpower. I've been told that the Growatt and Luxpower are decent products.

What makes it worth paying more than 50% more for a Deye or Sunsynk product? I was told that Growatt and Luxpower both have remote monitoring and management software like the Deye and Sunsynk
 
I purchased Sunsynk based off availability and installer familiarity. Oh and the 10 year warranty (with battery) had a look at the others and decided the extra cost was warranted.

Just do a quick Google, it will reveal a lot of information.

I don't see a German flag anywhere?

Have heard that the deye is essentially a branch of from the sunsynk but essentially a software freeze a long while ago , while sunsynk has tweaked further

I know they say the victron has a higher efficiency

Take salt lots of it

If the higher price is warranted is up to each to decide

I would rather spend that extra money on batteries and panels

Since that is the items that can cause quicker roi

And then if the cheapie packs up buy a better item if it doesn't bonus

At minimum you need hybrid
For grid feed imo

Deye is the designer and manufacturer. SunSynk buys inverters from Deye who install custom firmware on the SunSynk branded devices.

There are nothing wrong with the Growatt or the Luxpower but if you are looking for optimum charge and discharge according to usage its better to go with the Deye and Sunsynk its basically just about the life span of your battery ( Cycles wise ) that is influenced but I do have a system that is running with the big dogs ( Deye & Sunsynk ) and even beter than them in some cases for example compact, elegant, IP67 & alot more to offer that the above mentioned inverters at the price of the Growatt and Luxpower and its called a LIVOLTEK A.I.O HYBRID HYPER 5000. And you are welcome.

Can you really get a luxpower hybrid for R17k? I thought they were more expensive than that, around R20k. I don't know about growatt, but luxpower seems decent on paper.

My reasonings for going Sunsynk and being happy to pay a slight premium:
  1. They've been around and running for quite a few years now, so we have a bit of an idea that they're not all failing after 3-6months, etc.
  2. They're very popular and support is available from these forums, from the manufacturer, from the synsunk forums, etc. When you get stuck with a setting there's a very good chance someone has already worked through it and solved it.
 
100% understandable the Livoltek systems that I use also has local support and has been around for about 3 years and the have 10 years warrenty the batteries does 6000 cycles at 90% DOD and can parallel batteries up to 25 kw per 5 kw inverter it has a through put of 10 kw there is no limit on paralleling the inverters I have been installing this systems from the time that they started importing it to SA and I have had 1 system that failled and 1 that had software issue other than that all my systems that I have installed runs 100%

Doubt it. Unless he's getting directly from the importer?
I bought a Luxpower LXP (hybrid) last week. Paid R21900. When I emailed, and called around, that was the best recent pricing on the latest stock.
Previous Stock batches were selling for R20k (at the supplier i bought from Solar Sonic).
I was happy to buy the Luxpower SNA 5000 ("off-grid"), but stock of these are all reserved / sold out since mid Jan.
Ended up paying R7k more for the Hybrid Luxpower, but the benefits of the better unit are definitely worth it. The installer did however suggest I go Sunsync or Dye initially. When I mentioned the Luxpower, he said "it's bascially just as good".
I've been on the Luxpower support Whatsapp group since mid feb and the support is second to none!
Most issues raised are installation questions / settings / etc, and Luxpower has been absolutely stellar.
 
the most expensive part of an inverter is the mosfets used to derive the ac cycle (matched sets are better )and then the transformers to push the ac up to 230 v .copper transformers will be more expensive than copper clad or aluminium wound units .torroidals are inherently more expensive in copper .

Seen good reviews on these. Whats the cost of the hyper 5000 unit installed?

Yes they have a huge (entire back of system) is a heatsync and it runs at ambient temp 50 degrees Celsius indoors and doesent go a degree up

Good to know there are a lot of requests for quiet units from people and this looks like a good option for them. The all in one unit especially for flats, cottages etc
