They had a national shutdown last year as well but no one seemed to notice as it was a non event. This year he picked a date when people will be nice and drunk already with a hope the alcohol might give a little liquid courage.

Got emails from a few different courier companies saying they have taken the decision to close on Monday.

We have cargo which has arrived by air in Joburg but which is consigned to Cape Town. We’ve been informed that they are not even departing today by road for delivery from Joburg to Cape Town tomorrow as planned. They apparently anticipate an early start to the nonsense.

So our cargo sits in bond storage when it should be on the road already.

My GF just drove to Middleburg from Pretoria for the weekend to stay with her folks, and she has said there are more people loitering on the side of the highway by Witbank and in Middleburg she has already seen some large rocks placed in some roads with some gentlemen also loitering nearby.

Not sure of their intentions but it had her concerned.
