The Official Xiaomi Thread

Hi

Time for an upgrade from a Samsung A50.
Where is the best place to buy?

Don't mind importing if the price justifies it.
Looking for a mid level phine with NFC so I am considering the Redmi Note 10 Pro

Please feel free to suggest any other phones with NFC and Dual sim

Dankie

Xiaomi introduces its own digital car key, partners with BMW

After Apple introduced its Car Key feature back in 2020, it was bound for competitors to pick up and introduce their own versions of digital car keys. In fact, Oppo, OnePlus and vivo announced their digital car keys a couple of days ago, but partnered only with Nio for now. Xiaomi, on the other hand, chose BMW to pilot its feature.

During the Xiaomi 13 series announcement event at this year's MWC in Barcelona, the spokesperson said that Xiaomi would make available its digital car key to owners of select BMW models starting in Q2 this year.

Random fact: Picked up my wife's Xiaomi 9T the other day and unlocked it with my thumb, even though it's obviously programmed for her fingerprint......thought WTF.
Tried it again and it always works. My daughter tried it and it doesn't work with her's.
So yeah, rather concerning that the biometric login isn't reliable.
On my phone that would mean you have full access to my bank accounts :-(

Always enable password or pin for all important apps...

I can no longer recommend buying a Poco M3 or buying a cellphone from Takealot.

Short version:
The Poco M3 has a known battery fault and Takealot still won't refund me after over a month.

Long version:
My Poco M3 had a dead boot issue, which I now know is quite common on this phone. It was in warranty and I initially tried the Xiaomi store in Canal Walk, Cape Town. While they claim to do warranty repairs, they don't have an on site technician.

I then logged a return with Takealot, who were willing to take it back. The Poco M3 failed twice more while I transfered to a new phone and factory reset the Poco M3.

I returned the Poco M3 within Takealot's requested return window and within the 1 year warranty period. I also made sure to return the entire package including the charger and plastic case. Despite this, the return was originally rejected for "not returning all accessories". When I queried which accessories were missing they took days to check and eventually admitted that nothing was missing. They then agreed to do the return process again.

Next up I was told that they could not test my phone, as it was sent back to me. Since I hadn't received my Poco M3, I asked them where it was. Later I was told that it had never left the warehouse and that Takealot made a mistake.

Finally they try to check the phone and say that since it switches on, it's not faulty. I tried to explain that the battery issue is intermittent and well documented in Takealot comments, GSM arena and Reddit, but they again reject the return.

Next up they agreed to have a technician call me. I ask them to set a time and date ahead of the call, but I only get radio silence. Yesterday I get a call from Takealot, just ahead of a client meeting. I tell the Takealot employee that the call needs to be set up in advance and they should email me a request. Once again my return has been rejected as "the client doesn't want to talk to Takealot ".

Takealot has done a disservice to itself, Xiaomi and Poco. Quite honestly Takealot should not be selling the Poco M3 anymore, due to how common the dead boot issue is. I was disappointed to see that Takealot was still selling the model yesterday.

Update on this: It took about two months and countless emails, but Takealot did eventually refund me.

I've had my eye on this phone for over 6 months. I think it's time now to buy it.

Any common issues with this? And NFC 100% confirmed not on this phone?

Having used NFC a few times for payment - it's overrated. I could do without it.

Weird that 5G also have taken a back seat these days on new phones.

I've used NFC twice in 4 years, and that was to transfer to a new phone
