Are high-end inverter brands really worth their premium over less-established ones?

There are nothing wrong with the Growatt or the Luxpower but if you are looking for optimum charge and discharge according to usage its better to go with the Deye and Sunsynk its basically just about the life span of your battery ( Cycles wise ) that is influenced but I do have a system that is running with the big dogs ( Deye & Sunsynk ) and even beter than them in some cases for example compact, elegant, IP67 & alot more to offer that the above mentioned inverters at the price of the Growatt and Luxpower and its called a LIVOLTEK A.I.O HYBRID HYPER 5000. And you are welcome.
What does a sunsynk /deye do that affects battery life? With charging discharging that can't be replicated by other inverters

Do you mean they have a higher efficiency ie say 5%

and thus every 20cycles you save a cycle

Or 7% if i check the internet vs axpert

So every 14.28 cycles you save 1

And naturally 7% reduction in cost to top up the battery via eskom if no solar

People don’t seem to compare full feature parity and just look at 5kW vs 5kW and then wonder where the difference is.

Warranty and support is a major thing but stuff like the AC Passthrough on the Sunsynk/Deye is a major feature over looked by and not even mentioned by most installers.

Then there’s the “which one talks best to me smart home” factor.

And then you have the real world experience of clean power vs not so clean power on the cheaper things and weird stuff happening like your AV Receiver rebooting every time load shedding happens etc.

At the end of the day as with most things you get what you pay for and you don’t get what you don’t pay for.

Yes that is basically It and with the eskom (grid) these days we are going to deplete our 6000 cycles in a years time

Yea if you cycle 3 loadsheddings a day

5.5 years to go through the 6000 cycles

Diy battery first 4s expanded twice 8s then 15s

My 4 oldest cells turned 3 years old this year january

2nd batch of 4 turning 2 in october
And the last 7 will be 1 year old june

They are all second life cells

I drive them like i stole them
Kettle microwave dishwasher since last year june and stove added about 1-2 mnths ago can't recall exact timing


The first batch was light duty only tv and 12v downlights the first 21 months

The moment second batch arrived i started using harder
Was burning about 2kw every 2 hrs shedding ie 80% used every shedding since then

Though amount used went up with last batch ie kw used per shedding the discharge was 80% of capacity still

if using no panels and charging from eskom only if comparing an axpert to a sunsynk

If using panels it becomes irrelevant since panels often stand idle once battery is full ie you only gain shorter charging time

Longevity and guarantee is the reasons to buy higher priced
And to gain some cycles on the battery

Though You only gain about 300cycles over the 6000 term

Doesn't the axpert have the ability to divert pv to your load after the batteries have been fully charged ?
 
I think I get where OP is coming from with his question, we live in a world where things are expensive for no good reason, where Mercedes Benz can take a Nissan, slap their badge on, slap a premium price on it and try to pass it off as something premium. Clothes, electronics and pretty much everything, manufacturers are always trying to pull a fast one by just riding on their brand even when there is nothing exceptional they offer.

I know the saying that you get what you pay for is popular but sometimes you pay for what you don't get, again looking at the Mercedes Navara example. Thankfully as far as inverters are concerned, pricing still reflects some measure of quality and superior features, so we are still safe.

The problem though is if they don't come with a a ct coil the inverter will basically push all the panels produce and be noisy all the time as it won't limit how much it is pushing to meet just your loads

As Speedster said, run! Run very far away from this installer, because they are BSing you to get a sale. There are only two ubiquitous German brands off that top of my head in the PV inverter space, and those are SMA and Siemens.

My cheapie synerji has only caused one bad switch over since june last year

I was pulling 4.8kw at the time si as eskom came back , i had a trip

Other than that no bad behaviour of any devices

And switchover is normally smooth

Pass through when overload?

I know mine has a bypass mode , ie if load exceeds inverter output it bypasses the inverter and eskom powers the load

Many axperts have this feature

But i think the default is off
ie i had to enable it on my devices and my father in laws mecer axpert

I can speak from experience that my System Livoltek Hyper 5000 A.I.O has the ability to push excessive produced power after feeding loads to the grid for now I've only installed 4 x 550 Watt panels connected in Serie and its producing at average 1.8 kw and I export about 300 w to the grid.

inverters are made and manufactured in many countries .france,italy,germany ,austria and usa to name a few .maybe the chinese are made in shanghai ,but not all .

Not talking about the same thing

With grid tied you can push to grid

The problem with grid tied is the inverter cannot operate while Eskom is gone ie it switches off

While off-grid can operate with no eskom

So you get a hybrid which can behave like a grid tied while Eskom is present

And has switching so that if eskom falls away it switches to an of grid inverter and stops feeding to grid

Hence why the hybrid moniker

ie a hybrid between grid tie and off-grid

Though terms get used so generic

ie some axperts incorporate a charger and are called hybrid because of hybrid charging ie grid or solar
To throw the term hybrid around to seem more than it is

You get an axpert king
That is a hybrid and can grid push

So a true hybrid can grid push

ie that is what the sunsynk /deye etc and my synerji among others are
