If you want to be able to offer a payment method where people can use their banking app to scan to pay at markets and similar situations.

Yoco does this and you don't need to buy the card machine to be able to accept QR payments.

You can create an invoice on their app which generated a QR code and payment link.

Funds are transferred to your linked account the next day with a 2.95% fee deducted.

I've tried zapper and they charge an extra fee to cash out the funds and its not automatic.

Use my referral link to signup. Their card machine is worth it and you can even use it as a payment gateway on your website. It's integrated with shopify and woocommerce.

One more thing.

For markets almost all of the vendors are using Yoco and you will lose a sale if you don't have card facilities.

Setup is easy and you can be up and running same day if you buy the card machine at incredible connection. I would go with the card machine for markets over just offering a QR code to scan.

Interesting that they charge the same base rate as Yoco:

“Our rates are dynamic.

We charge between 2.95% and 2.55% (excl. VAT) - sliding scale depending on turnover

Your transaction fee is based on your previous month’s turnover and will decrease as you grow your business.

No signup fee or hidden costsNo monthly account feesNo online payment surcharge “

But considering you also have the option of getting a card machine Yoco is better and it’s widely recognised as well.

Yoco is only card machines and some links etc
Far as I am aware they don’t do scan to pay, so they’re fundamentally different products

At the very beginning yes but Yoco now offers virtually all payment type’s possible in South Africa, you can even integrate its payment portal into a website.

Seeing there is this new instant payment system for personal banking based off using a bank card number that was recently introduced to the banking system I wonder when banks will integrate scan to pay into their banking apps and allow people to make instant payments between people, it’s the logical progression.

”Instant Payments – allows customers to pay anyone via the FNB app using a card number. The recipient gets the money instantly in their bank account, irrespective of where they bank.”

Don’t forget about Zapper, that’s another option. I agree that a Yoco machine is a no-brainer.
