ICC issues war crimes arrest warrant for Putin for alleged deportation of Ukrainian children

Interesting segue that conveniently absolves Donnie for Syria… and neither post implicates Vladdy.

I see you, Zameside.
Yes.... if u against Putin then you're pro Biden..... that's how it works. The yanks under Biden are still supporting Turkey since they are short on Muslim nations that agree with them

ah the ICC, about as useful as a used condom with holes in it

countries must submit to it, it has no legal standing whatsoever over any country that has not accepted its legal authority

and none of the global superpowers have accepted any authority of the ICC over their countries
not Russia
not China
and not USA

all it's done is show itself to be a purely political tool to those who haven't yet realized it

Russia is not a global superpower. It's being treated as one which was a mistake, and less so now and hopefully not at all in the future. It's only claim to fame is its nuclear arsenal but if Russia wins against Ukraine the only solution for everyone else would be to also become a nuclear power. This will likely happen if Ukraine falls to Putin or if he uses nuclear weapons against her.

The USSR was a global power because it stole tech from America, received American investment in the 1930s-1940s, Lend Lease and looting of territories the Soviets captured.

The ICC decision means the West will no longer do business with Putin. He is no longer redeemable. No more talks of off ramps.

I don't know why the Putin simps here posture about the ICC being toothless. Of course the ICC does not have its own military. But if Putin overlies Europe or such, the plane could be brought down and Putin arrested. The big deal is that Putin is no longer redeemable in the free West. And the Russians, for those who know them and have known them for centuries have always had respect for the west and wanted its riches.

We can't arrest our friends, that ICC is smoking some good stuff.

Yup, it's all about business. And SA being a beggar here, should not make enemies in the West. I also hope you don't ever complain about any discrimination again.

Curious, what did Putin do for you?

Russia is not a global superpower
one of the largest militaries
some of the largest resource reserves (not an accident it's on OPEC+ btw)
permanent member of the UNSC

these are just facts, superpower is not some emotional drivel, it is fact based, and yes, Russia is, just look at how the entire western world has shat itself in own goals with their sanctions the past year ... that too is not an accident

LMFAO ... in your weirdest and wildest wet dreams maybe

mark my words, Putin will NOT be arrested due to the ICCs warrant, not ever, not in any country, period.

and that is the epitome of toothless

I wonder what would happen if Russia made the same threats

Missed the part where Trump was the current president did you. His administration had a long list of misfires.

Sanctions? North Korea and Iran are also superpowers then.

I can definitely see Putin being arrested if he lands in Europe or overflies it.

What's Russia going to do? Invade someone? Which Russian general will sacrifice his family for Putin?

Keep coping. Putin's burnt all his bridges with the West.

Slobodan Milošević says hi...
and Slobodan Praljak.

The guy whose horrid life achievements only ended up just being a meme for offing oneself.

Iran is a super power in the Middle East (if it gets nukes) and Russia is a super power in Eastern Europe.

Neither will go down quietly.

North Korea can be wiped from the face of the earth the moment China withdraws support, it's basically a manufactured threat to bolster China's defense capability.

Superpower was a term reserved for the US and USSR. Currently it's only USA in that position with the next in line being the PRC. Russia at best is a regional power. Nothing super about it, or global.

Nuclear weapons are great equalisers. After this there will be a proliferation of nuclear powers.
Invasion of North Korea would possibly cause nuclear detonation over Seoul so I don't think they would be that easy to defeat. Well they would be, but at what cost.
The thing is that both Iran and North Korea have had the biggest sanctions placed against them for decades and they're still able to cope quite well. What Russia is doing is not much of an achievement.

Not sure you can call it a superpower when it hasn't single-handedly won a war in this or the previous century.

But they like to think they are one.

No, superpower has to do with the range of power projection and means of being an immovable object. A martial sphere of influence as it were.

Russia increasingly has this ability in Eastern Europe..... Murica increasingly does not.

This is one thing Murica is very good at.... surprise losing a war as soon as it's arms sector has made a lot of money from it.

I would dispute that definition. Russia is a regional power. It has no power projection in Eastern Europe unless you mean Belarus and the occupied parts of Ukraine. Beyond that Russia has no power projection. It had some sway in terms of energy but they blew up NS1 and 2 so there's that. The Europeans are weaning themselves off the Russian hydrocarbons so there is no power projection. As to the nuclear weapons the Ukrainians have already told them that if Russia uses those they will continue to fight. Russia is not a superpower. There were two superpowers before America and USSR, and Russia is much, much smaller and less self sufficient and capable than the USSR.

I don't know about the marshal sphere of influence because the Ukrainians have told them to sod off and the Russians had to invade and they're behind where they were in the first days of this war of aggression.
Russia is not even capable of bombing the connections between Poland and Ukraine or Ukraine and Romania for fear of reprisals which will follow. The Black Sea Fleet is tied down because the Turks closed the Bosphorus Strait. In the Baltic the sea has become a NATO lake. When Russia loses Vladivostok to China it will be in an even more precarious position.

I know the Russians imagine they are great but that's their imagination.

I would dispute that definition. Russia is a regional power.
A compromise then a regional super power instead of a global one?

Germany is a regional power.... but only economically.
