Haval Preparing Large PHEV SUV

The yet-to-be-named SUV appeared online thanks to the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Here’s a first look at what you can expect ahead of its reveal.

What you see here is what Chinese media dub the B07 / Xiaolong Max, but if we follow GWM Haval’s naming conventions, it’ll likely have a more conventional name. Right now, thanks to the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, we know this newcomer is larger than the current Haval H6.

In terms of size, its 4 758 mm long, 1 895 mm wide and 1 725 mm tall. A wheelbase of 2 800 mm puts it 105 mm longer and 9 mm wider than the H6 with a 62 mm longer wheelbase. These dimensions put it in the same size bracket as something like a Kia Sorento or Hyundai Santa Fe.

PHEV stands for Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle which means the car has a combination of an internal combustion engine as well as an electric motor, which can be recharged by either the car using its ICE or via an external plug.

GWM aren’t playing around when it comes to finance - prime -3.06% on Haval and GWM P Series.

Haven’t seen another brand come close to those rates.

Haval P04 To Take on Land Cruiser

Great Wall Motors is continually increasing its SUV footprint, with this new Haval P04 image being shared by the brand. Here’s what we know so far.

The Haval P04 is yet another SUV from the Chinese giant GWM. As a reminder, GWM has Haval, Ora and Tank brands in its portfolio locally, while overseas there are a few more, like Wey.

What you see here is what’s called the Haval P04. The name will likely change to something that’s more in line with the rest of the family (think of the H6, H9 etc) but importantly, it’s riding on a bakkie body-on-frame platform. Apparently based on the large King Kong Cannon, the Haval P04 is one large offering.

As reported by CarNewsChina, at 5.2 metres long with a 3 metre wheelbase, this puts it in the same dimension bracket as something like the Toyota Land Cruiser 300. With this size in mind, it could easily accommodate seven seats.

After driving the H6 HEV for a few weeks now I average between 6.5 to 7 l/100 kms.

I am very happy, the car is very comfortable, taking it on its first long drive to Greyton tomorrow.

GWM Hi4 New-Gen Electrified Platform Announced

The GWM Hi4 is the brand’s new-generation electrified hybrid platform with impressive numbers like outputs of 340 kW and a pure electric range of 100 km.

Chinese car giant Great Wall Motors (GWM) has announced its latest hybrid technology platform that will underpin future products. It’s called the GWM Hi4 (Hybrid Intelligent 4-wheel drive) and is said to “optimise efficiency in all road conditions and driving scenarios.”

What you see here is what Chinese media dub the B07 / Xiaolong Max a soon-to-be revealed plug-in hybrid from Haval, but if we follow GWM Haval’s naming conventions, it’ll likely have a more conventional name. Right now, thanks to the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, we know this newcomer is larger than the current Haval H6.

The new GWM Hi4 platform will be available with two power sources (ICE and EV) with a maximum total output of 340 kW, which is quite the claim. A pure electric range of around 100 km is offered, and while no numbers were given, GWM said the advanced lithium-ion battery pack is “high capacity” and can be charged from 30% to 80% in under 30 minutes. Again, no mention of actual charging speeds, so we can’t comment on whether this performance is good or not.

The new powertrain features a smart system comprising three power sources and dual-axle distribution, where two motors work in parallel to deliver a four-wheel drive hybrid experience. The GWM Hi4 also features intelligent torque vectoring to cleverly adjust the balance of power/torque delivery between the front and rear axles, preventing wheelspin and loss of traction on slippery roads.

Haval reveals new hybrid architecture which will offer outputs of up to 340kW

Haval’s parent company GWM has taken the wraps off its new-generation hybrid technology platform, which it calls Hi4, or Hybrid Intelligent 4WD.

The Chinese carmaker wants to make waves in the hybrid SUV market by offering the best combination of performance, safety and efficiency.

Combining petrol and electric power, vehicles underpinned by this architecture will offer system outputs of up to 340kW, GWM says. The company is also promising industry-leading thermal efficiency, made possible by an advanced combustion system, high-pressure direct injection and low-pressure exhaust gas recirculation technology.

It appears that the first vehicle to be underpinned by this platform will be the upcoming B07, which will likely receive a more imaginative name in international markets.

While the B07 SUV, which appears slightly bigger than the H6, will have a plug-in hybrid set-up with an electric-only range of up to 86km, it won’t receive the full 340kW output, at least not initially. According to Car News China, its drivetrain will feature a 113kW 1.5-litre turbopetrol engine paired with an electric motor.

REVIEW: Haval Jolion S adds zest to a practical and modern package

VERDICT

The Haval Jolion S impresses with its strong performance, sporty looks and its practical, feature-packed cabin.

There are a few niggles, like in-town fuel consumption, and the cabin is less than user friendly in some ways, but these are not necessarily dealbreakers.

Priced beneath the half-a-million mark, the Haval Jolion S delivers reasonably good bang for buck all round. But if you can stretch your budget to one of the hybrid models then do so, as they offer a somewhat more satisfying driving experience and frugality to boot.
