Cape Town to get lower electricity price hike this year

The most common tariff is Home (for any home over R1m valuation).
  • 0 – 600 kWh: 228,56 c/kWh (excl. VAT) or 262,84 c/kWh (incl. VAT)
  • >600 kWh: 315,41 c/kWh (excl. VAT) or 362,72 c/kWh (incl. VAT)
  • Monthly Home User service charge of R185,00 (excl. VAT) or R212,75 (incl. VAT)
^^ that's the only rate that has any real relevance w.r.t solar.

Lifeline is only for indigent people who also get free credits (no one else does) and basically you should be on that tariff if you use over 350 units...

Having prepaid does nothing btw.

Yip, that's the one I'm on. So R 3.09 / unit after the 17.6% increase.

Been searching for solar panels like crazy for the last few weeks, but they are like hens teeth down here in the Cape.

You guys pay R3.71? WTF! Solar will be paid off in 1 year with those prices.
People on Lifeline are classified as poor and if you use less than 350 units you pay much cheaper than everyone else. Effectively a person in this category should not use that much power. The higher tariff above 350 units was to try and prevent miss use, i.e. someone runs a business from their house or connects a bunch of neighbors to their house.

and if they did by mistake, make them even more destitute. That is like just over 1 unit a day, WTF are you supposed to do with that?

Fixed socialist tax also going up with 17% as well as CoCT salaries. CPT get ready to take get more CoCT!

It is calculated as a monthly average. So if you go over 1 month it is not going to change anything, but if your average pm over a year is greater than 350 units, they'll nail you with the higher tarriff.

10 units its per day should be more than enough if you're poor, if you have enough electronic stuff that uses that much power you are not poor.

CoCT socialist scheme will now start imploding, already started imploding with LS. Middle class loosing homes but indigents get more free shyt.
