Mbeki says countries raising debate on use of US dollar

It's also weird looking at that photo, considering she calls herself African American.
The US is kinda weird in that you're any race other than black mixed with any race other than black you're considered mixed race but if you're any race mixed with black then you're automatically considered black.

Asian + white is mixed
Asian + Mexican is mixed
Black + white is black
Black + Asian is black

By using the term empire are you suggesting that America engages in exploitative or oppressive practices toward other nations and peoples?
I wasn't commenting on their conduct as an empire but as all empires do they abuse power dynamics.

in my opinion they've been inadvertently agregioisly bad in terms of abuses of power but their goals have been based somewhat in trying to do good...they are unfortunately just idiots.

Do you think islamic guy supporting hamas is the best neutral guy for opinion on USA ?

USA being terrorist state fact is reasonable though - I concede that due to multiple bombings in ME and other places.
Strangely I think that the use of USD outside of the US is to some extent independent of what happens in the US. There is so much trade carried on in the third world in USD that it can't be changed quickly or easily I think.

I agree. Whether anyone likes or not, USD is monetary language of the world something akin to English language being the world language. It would take humungous effort to change this and I personally don't see any problem with status quo.

People are tired apparently of the US using the USD to manipulate and control.

Because you know, once we base everything off the Ruple or the Yuan those countries will sit in a circle and sing Kumbaya. They have no intention of using their currency to further their (no democracy) ideals….
Oh and tooth fairy says hello.

How long do you reckon USA has ? I was planning a visit there by year end. Do you think I should wait for dollar to collapse and then visit ?

@cguy - convert yours to yen while you have time.
The USA will be around forever. Don’t worry. :sneaky:

Well BRICS countries certainly don’t trust each other either.

It's an alliance of convenience not love.
Yeah but I don’t see them replacing the dollar with any one of their currencies just to land up in the same situation again. If there’s going to be a new reserve, it’s not the yuan or ruble.

It won't be, Russia and China are busy developing a new digital standard currency.

It doesn't have to be any specific currency. This is why gold was used prior to central banks becoming a thing, and it actually worked better. Or even a neutral currency specifically for international trade

The USD becoming the reserve currency goes back to WW2. Countries like Germany and Japan were in ruins and turned to the US to help rebuild them. The US printed more money with the understanding from their allies that it's going towards aid. It hasn't stopped since.

Here's why they can get away with it:

The difference is we don't live in that sort of world anymore and we don't need the US to be watchdog of the world...
