Spoke to my swaer whos a car salesman the other day on jhb vs cpt prices. I noticed similar 2nd hand model prices vary quite a bit and that usually the milage is the big difference.

He said to me that "generally" JHB cars are usually cheaper cos of the high mileage. but better buys because they have done more highway miles vs CPT cars that spend much more time in traffic.

So in theory, although you are buying 2nd hand higher mileage, but the same age, if you wanna buy a car that is probably gonna last longer, its worth looking at jhb 2nd hands.

probably all anecdotal, or maybe true to an extent.

AND YES I know that you still need to look at each car individually for the usuals (service history, accident damage, wear and tear, etc.).
So all those things being equal, is a 150 000 Km JHB car potentially a better long term buy than a 100 000 Km CPT car? What other factors also come into play?

Discuss!

What other factors also come into play?
Rust is also less of an issue up in JHB with older cars as they wouldn't have been exposed to as much salt air as coastal cars. Not that it matters too much nowadays as most cars have quite good protection against perforation with the advances and affordability of galvanising, coating and other techniques.

Kaapies also can't drive. It's like giving a toddler your laptop and asking him to write code. The laptop you get back will probably not be the same as when you gave it to him...

Cape Tonians cant drive, its terrible. especially when the weather changes. I lose my S##T. got worse after covid.

Also cape town has become the traffic capital of SA. combined with minimal highway driving, definately the city of stop start

Another factor is that there are way too many cars being sold in Joburg than in Cape Town, I think three times more or something, the more cars being sold the more used cars there will be and the more they are the cheaper they become.

Also remember half the cars for sale in JHB are the scammers in that one area…
But it’s true prices are cheaper up there even from legit sellers, I think it’s all the mercury in the water from the mine dump runoff.

You get the car for free. You're paying for the rims and Ferrari sticker...
Now here’s a man that knew what he was getting when he bought his Parktown Polo, did you get the free 100,000km haircut with your vehicle?
