Hi,

If a middle class person wants to settle down and lead a n average life (not to rich and not to poor), what are the average monthly expenses that he will have to pay?

Also, what are the estimated costs of the needs of a middle class family of two?

Thanks

With or without kids / how many kids?

Adjusted for two peeps:

R5000 Food
R3000 Medical aid
R2000 Municipal rates & taxes, water and electricity etc
R1500 Takeaways
R1500 Home stuff, incl Clothing etc
R1200 Petrol
R1000 Sundries
R1000 Family
R600 Internet
R600 Cellphone etc
R500 Other random subs - Youtube premium, Google One, Showmax, email hosting etc

Excluding rent, that is probably R8000++ and car payments or other loan repayments and maintenance.

I wish my expenses were that simple.

Family of four living in a middle class suburb with kids in private school, a bond and one car loan will probably need to be pulling in a net salary of over 70k a month these days. That isn't even including luxuries like family holidays.
Or dual income household.

In my case as a family of two with house and car paid off.

Averages going back over the last year:

In SA: R25000
In the Netherlands: 2200 Euros
In Thailand: 75000 Baht
In the USA: $2800

That's not including travel costs, etc. Just living costs.

Runaway inflation....
I tend to agree

How long is a piece of string. All depends on your lifestyle, hobbies, how fat you are, what you consider comfortable, assets you already own, the town and area you want to live in, your needs and if you drink coffee or chicory.
What's wrong with chicory?
