South Africa’s refining capacity is very limited at the moment with many of our refineries shut down, so we have no way of refining oil purchased from Russia.

I wonder CD, if SA were to exchange the aid and trade we get from the West and affiliated countries for the BRIC whether we'd do better or worse.

I'm sure the HIV meds which are licensed from the West which millions of South Africans use to stay alive will still be bountiful.

If the West was like Russia, they would cut the ART supply off, they'd forbid India from selling the ART which is licensed from the West to SA. Millions of people would ultimately die.

Of course the West is reasonable, compassionate and humanitarian and would not do this. Hence the ANC can sh-t on Western countries.

are you under the illusion that one of the largest exporters of oil and two of the largest importers of oil don't already have logistics sorted out to a point where they have economies of scale?

newsflash, it gets transported to ZA anyway, regardless the source, and if our refining capacity falls flat it gets refined elsewhere, and transported, anyway

I'm merely pointing out it can be had for a cheaper base price, yet our ANC is too f-ing dumb to do it

Your strawman example is really silly. Russia did not cut anyone off from anything they produced and have made deals to get Ukrainian grain out to countries that need it.

It's quite simple actually. SA sits at the bottom of Africa. The oil comes from the Middle East and has to be transported to one of the BRICS countries with refining capacity. Then transported to SA. Seeing you know so much, tell me what the cost of that extra trip for ideological reasons would be.
