Government wants to turn this small town in South Africa – with less than 8,000 people – into a major coastal city

Know someone who stays there, you just go to the head in the township, make a deal and you are safe, he make sure.
Just like he make sure palms are greased on government side when tenders are awarded no doubt. No such thing as transparency in an autocracy.

Best airfield in the country. Perched on top of that escarpment with the end of the runway on top of a sheer cliff. I loved taking off there, scaring my passengers by dropping into the valley to follow the river and then proceeding coastwise to Durban or PE.

What a load of rubbish!? It is a small isolated town with limited transport access in an area of natural beauty. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Port_St._Johns

I know I'm responding to an old post here, but... if/when the N2 Wild Coast rerouting is ever completed, Port St. Johns will be a lot more accessible. The town itself will be bypassed, but most of the R61 between Umtata and Lusikisiki will become part of the new N2 route. (The controversial part of the project, apart from the proposed tolling, is the greenfields section between Lusikisiki and Port Edward.)
