The Eastern Bloc aid to the "Global South" was substantial. The issue here is that many in the ANC and similar groupings in Africa forget about this aid and only claim that Russia provided assistance. That's the whole point.

The whole Communist world in Europe provided aid. We're not debating the merits or outcomes of that aid. I'm claiming such aid existed because people in SA who think Soviet aid was a wonderful thing, forget about that.

Don't be rude. Books are not merely recountings of facts, (if they are even facts) they inject interpretation. In so doing they become opinion. I AM a student of the events in question but from a military not a socio-economic perspective and I am not blinkered by the interpretation of those events by the people I studied under.

I am. Being nice to a young kid because you want to shag his sister is not being nice. While giving financial and military aid to Mozambique the soviets dredged their prawn banks. While supplying money and weapons to Vietnam the soviets tested their weapons systems in combat and gained valuable intelligence on the capabilities of US systems. The US was doing the same while supporting the hopelessly corrupt south Vietnamese govt.
The soviet missile sites in Cuba were not there to defend Cuba. Strategic nuclear weapons in an untargeted country are not defensive.
There are no angels in this story. Also, the warsaw pact was "by, for, and with" the soviet union. They had very little say of their own. the moment there was dissent, in rolled the tanks. The best quantifiable measure of the merits of the eastern bloc is that it no longer exists and there is no outpouring of public desire to return to those days.

What I can tell you firsthand is this, of all the foreigners I meet (and its a lot ok, several every day) the russians are hands down the most racist. I have been casually told things that are breathtakingly racist. Whatever they gave us it was not because they loved us.

I'm not sure why the colours but next time write clearly what you mean the first time. Books can be full of facts or can be nonsense but at least books written by academics with citations are something and not one sentence liners by anons.

Anyhow the whole Warsaw Pact helped the various countries of the Third World, including SA. They helped directly and indirectly. Indirect help would be the sustenance of the USSR because the USSR also exploited us, I'm originally from a former Communist Country and we all had wonderful deals which including taking our resources and later shipping us junk or manipulating currency.

If you can't pronounce something that's on you. Learn to pronounce things. Tell your professor to also learn to pronounce things.


The outcome of that help is not for this discussion. The point as you maybe said above and as I said, was that the ANC and many others think the USSR helped them significantly. We can set that significance aside. The help as you say from the Communist Bloc was exploitative too as the book I cited also mentions. But the fact remains that people in SA and beyond, in the "Non Aligned World" believe that Russia helped them significantly. In the current situation it should be said that it wasn't just Ukraine which helped them and Russia but the whole Eastern Bloc and I am merely against the repeated rhetoric that only the USSR provided assistance because I hear this nonsense from pro-Western commentators who are just poorly educated in that aspect. Because Westerners also suck Russian d1ck, and are in love with Dostoyevski and Tchaikovsky while ignoring other, even more accomplished people from non-Russian Eastern Europe.

Oh this -- "the moment thew was dissent ... tanks..." is not actually true. The local communist leaders could pursue different policies to some degree. There wasn't that strict direct control. The strict control was under Stalin but 2-3 years after his death there was some softening and more autonomy.

By late 1980s the Soviets even gave up on Eastern Europe. For example Jaruzelski did not have to impose Martial Law in the 80s because Brezhnev actually said, they'd let the Poles go and become capitalist / western.
Vladimir Bukovsky actually found that information in the Soviet archives after Yeltsin came to power.

So it's not all black and white. Eastern Europe had her fair share of scummy communists, many of whom are still at the trough and some are doing very well, as are their kids.
 
Russia has already been cut off from CNN, Pornhub and Facebook. The US is also depriving Russians of MacDonalds and CocaCola. If they keep going with these sanctions, Russians will soon be among the healthiest, well adjusted and best informed people on the planet.....

Do you have a source to prove all Russians call black people that or even to show that it's in common use? Or is your statement the same as someone saying Afrikaaners call black people the K-word?
